IT'S NOT EASY WHEN THE COMPUTERS GO DOWN...

... or is it?  It's certainly quieter.  At least that is what we found when the entire computer system for the city went down yesterday morning around 10:30  a.m.  I think we were all secretly glad that the adults and especially the kids were less than usual.  I worked until 6 p.m. and the computers never came back up.  Someone was working on one of the streets around the main branch and accidentally cut the line for the phone system and the computers.  Some libraries had computers that worked but no phones.  Most had phones with no computers.  Only 12 of our 56 branches had both.  Today the computers are up again, but some libraries still have no phones (and therefore no faxes).

 People were very upset that there were no computers to use.  VERY upset.  We were upset because we realized that almost all of our work is done on the computer.  We had stacks of things piled  up for us to do and ... we couldn't!  Guess what we're doing today.

 It is cold today!  It looks as if fall is really here.  Well, it is almost November so what do I want?  And the trees have finally started to turn color.  Not like they will be in a few weeks, but at least it's a beginning.  I took these pictures on the way home from church on Sunday.


Last night Joe and I watched the new Cinderella movie.  I didn't think Joe would like it, but he said it was an interesting take on the story and he watched the whole thing.  I thought it was really good especially the special effects with the pumpkin turning into a coach (and back) and the animals.  It is a little long, but well worth seeing.



It's been three weeks now that only two other people showed up for Bible Study.  That's a shame because the lessons have been so good and we three (yes me included) got so much out of it.  We are nearing the end of Galatians.  Just two more lessons and then we take a break for the winter.  On Saturday it is our Dottie's 92nd birthday.  Here is a picture of her and my friend Debbie.  Dottie is a sweet lady.


I have been eating really badly so tonight when I go home I am going to cook a decent dinner -- poached salmon, veggies and pumpkin cookies that Joe baked last night.  I love it that he's a baker.

I'm going to end with another picture of my baby Pumpkin.  He is such an imp and into everything.  Today he learned to climb the stairs to be with us.  Here is a picture to show how tiny he really is.  Look at him with the remote.

    I never remember seeing the leaves as beautiful as they are here right now. The colors are just amazing!
    I want to see Cinderella. I've been wanting to watch it forever

      I hope you get a chance to see Cinderella. It was a great movie.

      We don't get color on our leaves until the first week of November. I guess because we're in the mid-Atlantic region.

    I love all these colors! Hopefully all computers and phones for all branches will be up & running. Bible study is something I always look forward to. I learn so much. Not just from the lesson,but from
    each other. Gives me other perspectives....

    Kathy, Imagine the total confusion when all the computers go down.LOL. That probably was nice without so many kids running around...but then all your paperwork is on them too. Bless Dottie's heart. Enjoy your pretty days Kathy. I think ours are numbered here. Bless you, xoxo,Susie

      Are you moving? Dottie is certainly one of a kind. I can't imagine being 92 years old and getting around as well as she does.

    It is rough when a system goes down, and people dont understand why....did you not find a church to attend this past weekend? will you continue the bible study, even if you change churches? I cant believe more people dont come. Pumpkin is such a cutie!!!!

      I went to my regular church on Sunday. It was not a good idea. I want to continue Bible Study even if I'm not attending that church. Maybe I'll have it at my house.

    I loved the Cinderella movie! My absolute favorite part was when they turned into and back!! Excellent special efects.

    The leaves are turning here as well. I always enjoy watching the trees across the street from our hardware store change color, as they are now. I think I'll take a photo of them soon! It's been raining here and we need it badly in OR. Now there's snow on Mt Hood, which was so bare this summer! So hopefully our normal weather is back? Not seen the new Cinderella movie. Megan wants to see the new Jurassic movie so will probably watch on hallowe'en since we don't do anything else. I hope you find a good church to go to. We are doing good and having a better week...so thankful for all the prayers my friends have prayed. Makes a difference and I'm happier! Wow, what a day you all had...and then I heard about the blimp that got loose in Maryland and finally went down in PA. Weird stories never seem to cease lately! So glad God is faithful to us!! Hugs and prayers!
