GOING TO TARGET TWO DAYS IN A ROW

Hello friends!  Boy is it ever hot.  And I know it must be where you are too.  I feel as if I am living in the desert.  Here is what the temperature was when I got into my car on Friday.

That's 44*C for my friends who use the metric system.  It took forever to get the temperature to go down.

On Thursday I had to take Joe to the Emergency Room.  He had/has a nasty cough.  He started taking over the counter cough medicine, but it didn't help much.  He called his doctor, but couldn't get her, so ended up asking me to take him to the hospital.  They kept him a couple of hours, then sent him home with four prescriptions.  Don't worry, it isn't Covid.  He had two tests both of which came back negative.  When someone starts coughing isn't that the first thing we think of these days?

When we got out of the hospital, we headed to Target to get his prescriptions filled.  Target has a CVS in it.  I still am not walking well (or a lot) so I just stayed around the Dollar Spot.  I found some really cute things there.  I got some fall dish towels and a little decorative house.  I haven't taken a picture of them, but I will show you soon.

The CVS was closed so we had to come back the next day.  Joe was too sick to go with me, so I headed to Target by myself.  When I got to the store, I had to walk through the Dollar Spot to get to the pharmacy.  And I was so glad I bought my towels the day before.  There were two towels left.  Two.  Otherwise, the entire shelf was empty.  Wow!

I made a YouTube video showing my purchases.  It will go up in about a week (maybe two?) so be sure to check it out.

Sisters Getaway is coming fast.  Like tomorrow.  So this is going to be short.  I will be sure to post some pictures for you.

Until next time...

CATCHING YOU UP

Hello, friends!  It sure is hot.  And not just me.  It's everywhere.  I'm feeling so sorry for those people in Europe who aren't used to this kind of weather.  And don't have air conditioning.  People are dying.  I'm sure it's happening here in the U.S. too.  I am so thankful for the air conditioning in my home even if it is only a window unit.  It makes being in here bearable.

I haven't been writing because there is really not much going on besides doctor appointments and cleaning the house.  And none of the doctor appointments seem to be doing well.  More testing to see what is going on.  Lots of pain in my left knee.  So if I come to mind, please pray for me to get through this.  The good news is I lost another 5 pounds.  From this time last year I am down 17 pounds.  Yay!

But next week will be better because it is the annual Sisters Getaway.  It used to be a Sisters Week, but with the change in our jobs, my sister and I get two days now.  But we are making the most of it.  I will be sure to take lots of pictures and bring you along.

I have been wanting to get out in the yard and work but it is just too hot.  I can't do it.  And all of my plants are dying.  It's even too hot to cut the grass.  But that is dying too.  Next week we are supposed to have a break in the weather and I hope my knee will allow me to get out there and do stuff then.

I'm watching a lot of YouTube these days.  I really like picking a channel and then going back to the beginning and watching it straight through.  It usually takes weeks (sometimes months) to go through them.  Especially if it is an old channel.  But it's like a sociology class in school.  You can see how people change.  Not just in their looks, but in their way of thinking and looking at things.  How they decorate.  The things they eat.  So interesting!  And I guess we all do that.  I know I sure don't eat the way I did when I was in my 20s.

I'm hoping to get the kitchen cleaned up today.  I started yesterday and got a lot done.  But there is no a/c out there and when it gets too hot, I have to stop.  We got invaded by ants.  It happens every year.  This year is not as bad as in years past.  But I am having to scrub everything.  They especially like cat food for some reason.  Jack is unfazed and eats around them.  Don't separate Jack from his food!

He's my boy!  Even if he does scratch me up.

Joe has a wicked cough.  It started last night.  I want him to go to Urgent Care, but he wants to just take the cough medicine we have in the house.  He got up, ate breakfast, and went back to bed.  If it gets worse, I am going to insist he goes.  (Yeah, right, as if he will listen to me.)

Well, that's about it.  Not much to tell or show you.  Hang in there everyone.  Things will get better.  I'll talk to you later.

SUNDAY PRAISE

Hello, friends!  Happy Sunday to you.  I hope you are having a great weekend.  It has been hot here, but I have been staying cool in the air conditioning.  I bless Joe all the time for putting it in the window for me.  It is not an easy job!

As for my health, it has not been good.  The medication given to me for my heart has had a bad side effect on me and I am bleeding heavily non-stop.  I spoke with my doctor on Friday and he said to stop taking it immediately.  The bleeding has let up some, but I am on complete bed rest until I speak to him tomorrow.  So obviously I did not get to church today.  Hopefully I can get up and do some light things tomorrow.  I have had only one a-fib attack and it lasted only 10 seconds or so.  Life is complicated some times.

But God is still good and I want to share today's lesson with you.

THE TEN LEPERS  (Luke 17:11-19)

Leprosy was a terrible disease.  People with leprosy could not get close to anyone.  They had to live outside the city.  They had to ring a bell so people could run away from them.

One day, ten lepers heard that Jesus was nearby.  They rushed out to meet him and cry for mercy.  They knew that Jesus could heal them.

Most people ran away from lepers.  But Jesus had mercy on them.  Jesus healed all of the men.  He told them to go see the priest to be allowed back into the city and to see their families.

One of the men came back to thank Jesus for healing him.  The other nine forgot to thank Jesus.  Jesus was happy with the thankful leper.  Jesus said to the man, "Go, your faith has made you well."

Leprosy was a very bad disease.  People who had it could not be near people who didn't.  They lived in groups away from other people.  Sort of reminds us of the COVID-19 isolation that we have all lived through recently.  We were isolated from our friends and families.  But we had ways to keep in touch such as e-mail, facetime, telephone, etc.  These people could never see or communicate with their loved ones again.  How terrible this must have been for them.  Not only were they sick with a horrible disease, but they were cut off from all those they loved for the rest of their lives.

These ten men looking for Jesus were desperate.  They were willing to risk people throwing stones at them, running from them, everything...  They wanted to see Jesus because they had heard that He could heal them.

They found Jesus and asked Him for mercy.  He healed all ten of them.  But only one came back to thank Jesus.  The other nine never returned.

Did Jesus know before He healed them that the nine wouldn't thank Him?  Yes, He did.  But He still healed them.

Gratitude is important.  How can we show gratitude?  Saying thank you is one way.  But how about helping someone.  Clearing the table for someone who has cooked you a good meal.  Running an errand for someone.  I'm sure you can come up with lots of good ideas.

James 1:17 says:  Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.

Everything good comes from God.  The lesson suggests starting a gratitude journal and I think I will.  It's so easy to look at the bad side of life.  How much better to see all the wonderful things God has given to us.

See you all really soon.

HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY

Hello, friends!  Happy Independence Day.  I hope you all had a wonderful day.  I got up sort of late (for me) this morning.  I didn't have much for breakfast because I knew Joe, our friend Carole, and I were going out for lunch.

I thought we were going to go to Cracker Barrel, but instead we ended up at one of our favorite places, the Country Club Diner.  We haven't been there in a long time.

I wanted a burger, but beef has not been my friend lately.  I saw they had a turkey burger and ordered that.

I didn't expect much because I have had turkey burgers in the past that weren't all that good.  This one was wonderful.  So good.  I finished the entire thing and ate half of the fries before my stomach said, "No more!"

Carole had a Spanish omelet and grits.  Because she was sitting across from me and there were lots of glasses in the way, I wasn't able to get a picture of it.

Joe ordered his favorite, a whitefish platter with two bagels.

Both Carole and Joe said their meals were wonderful too.

We came home and Joe mentioned that he had lost some money and the receipt from Lowes that it was wrapped in.  We thought that it might be on the table by the front door where everything gets dumped.  So I took everything off of it, and started sorting things out.  So much was on that table!  I got a shopping bag of recycling off of it.  I think everyone has a place like that.  You put things down just for a minute and they never get moved.  We didn't find the receipt or money, but the table looks so much better!  It's one of those jobs that I kept putting off for another day and I feel so good that it's actually done.

After all of that, I took a nap.  But when I woke up, it was heading for 7:00 p.m.  The whole day was gone.  We were ready to eat something, but not a lot.  So I just made us hot dogs for dinner.

Please excuse the mess.  The counter in back of me needs cleaning off too!  Maybe tomorrow.  I'm on a roll!

We bought cupcakes at the diner and had them for dessert.  Joe got a chocolate cupcake with a baseball on top.  I got a yellow cupcake with a flag and red, white and blue sprinkles.

I had planned on a strawberry and blueberry dessert, but that will be for tomorrow.

About 9:00 p.m. I went outside and stood on my doorstep and watched the fireworks.  They were amazing this year.  I tried to film them, but missed a lot of the best ones.  Here is one little snippet though.

On Saturday I got my hair cut for the summer.  I like it so much!  My hairdresser, Lisa, is a gem.  I wouldn't go to anyone else.

Here I am before:

And here I am after.

I also made a couple of patriotic signs from the craft kit that gets mailed to me each month.  They turned out so good.  I didn't have wall space to put them, so I have them on the stairway.  Actually, they look quite nice there.

And now I have to go study my lesson for tomorrow and get to bed so I can get up in the morning to teach the Bible Study.  Let me know how you celebrated your holiday.  Hope it was wonderful.  See you all soon.
