WHAT I'M READING - MEGHAN: A HOLLYWOOD PRINCESS (2018/7)

I have been struggling with having enough time to just sit and read.  So I have been reading this book for about 14 weeks and am still not finished.  But it is due to the library tomorrow, so I am just going to return it.  I know how it ends.

MEGHAN:  A HOLLYWOOD PRINCESS
by Andrew Morton (2018)

Summary:
When Meghan Markle and Prince Harry were set up by a mutual friend on a blind date in July 2016, little did they know that the resulting whirlwind romance would lead to their engagement in November 2017 and marriage in May 2018

Since then, our fascination with the woman who has smashed the royal mold has rocketed.  So different from those coy brides of recent history, Meghan is confident, charismatic and poised; her warm and affectionate engagement interview won the hearts of the world.

In this first-ever biography of the duchess-to-be, acclaimed royal biography Andrew Morton goes back to Meghan's roots to uncover the story of her childhood growing up in The Valley in Los Angeles, her studies at an all-girls Catholic school, and her fraught family life -- a painful experience mirrored by Harry's own background.  Morton also delves into her previous marriage and divorce in 2013, her struggles in Hollywood as her mixed heritage was time and again used against her, her big break in the hit TV show Suits, and her work as humanitarian ambassador -- the latter so reminiscent of Princess Diana's passions.  Finally, we see how the royal romance played out across two continents but was kept fiercely secret, before the news finally broke and Meghan was thrust into the global media's spotlight like never before.

Drawing on exclusive interiews with her family members and closest friends, and including never-before-seen photographs, Morton introduces us to the real Meghan as he reflects on the impact that she has already had on the rigid traditions of the House of Windsor, as well as what the future might hold.

My view:
Need I say more?  Her early life was really interesting.  Her schooling was fascinating.  She really struggled trying to break into show business.  She made TV history in Suits.  Now she is forging a new way for herself.  The Duchess of Sussex is going to shake up the royal family.  At least in my opinion.  (In case you haven't figured it out, I love everything royal.)

  1. What a great ending to a beginning she had no idea would come about.

    1. That's for sure. But then none of us know how we will end.

  2. It will be interesting to see how she copes. I'm sure she's being well schooled in the process of whats required by Royal Etiquette. The establishment here is a powerful thing so I dont think she will shake things up too much other than bringing a slightly different perspective.

  4. I think Meghan makes a wonderful addition to the Royal Family. I wish her and Prince Harry a wonderful life together. I don't get much time to read (I fall asleep) so I appreciate your synopsis of the book. You have a super day, hugs, Edna B.

  5. It is an interesting story, for sure, but I really do not have the same fascination with the Royals as many people do. Yes, I watched the wedding (taped it) and I did follow Diana back in the day but I would not care to read a book about any of them. Yes, we know how they all end.

    1. I think I like the royals since I am a descendant of Henry II of England. I feel as if they are my family. And in a way, they are.

  6. I like everything "royal". Have you watched The Crown on Netflix? It's really good. Except there's one episode in Season 2 that crossed the line (gross). We skipped it. You'll know when you get there.

    1. I do not have Netflix so I have not seen The Crown although I have heard good things about it. There are snippets on YouTube that I have seen and it looks good.
