SUMMER FRUIT AND VEGETABLES

Can you guess what my favorite summer fruit is?  It's green on the outside and red on the inside.  It's sweet and very juicy.  And it's pictured above.  I just LOVE watermelon.  The fragrance makes my mouth water.  It's so refreshing on a hot day.  Yumm...

One of the things I love about summer is the fresh fruit.  Besides watermelon I love cantaloupe and honeydew also.  (Although I don't like them quite as much as watermelon.)

I am not a berry person.  I dislike most berries. But I do love my strawberries.  And some blueberries even sneak in there now and then.

The other day I made a salad and put strawberries in it.  I had never done that before and was a little hesitant, but it turned out good.

I love the summer tomatoes also.  There is nothing like a Jersey tomato to tell you summer is here.  Juicy, flavorful, it tastes like a tomato is supposed to taste like.  I hope I get to a farmer's market soon to get some.

What's your favorite summer fruit or veggie?

  1. I love most veggies especially cauliflower,broccoli,carrots..I like strawberries but not melons. I can eat
watermelon in moderation but my stomach doesn't like melons. Oh well...Have a sunny day!

  2. Home Grown Tomatoes, picked out in the sunshine, and just wiped down you sleeve---just stroking that one little inch-wide space on the tomato, if it's picked and eaten right out there by the vine, has a magic that renders all germs and dust absolutely GONE.

Or a big cool platter of them, sliced alongside some cold sweet onion and some narrow crisp cucumbers---now THAT's Summer food.

There's one sublime thing here that I'd never hears of and I don't think it extends out of the state---DECKER Melons. They're immense, plump and ripe and dripping with juice. You can hardly peel one without having your fingermarks impressed in each crescent---they're that tender and perfect. They should be IN right now, for after the first of July they're gone, and you can just make do with cantaloupe and wish for next year.

I don't ever presume to link to my blog, but these are special:

  4. I like strawberries and marionberries and cherries. This year they are early again due to warm weather. Yes home grown veggies are good too.
