HONORING THE VETERANS AT KING GEORGE INN

Another busy day yesterday.  I slept much later than I usually do and then just puttered around the house for a bit and made some phone calls.  Finally I looked at the clock and realized that I really had to get a move on.

Today was our day at the nursing home.  With our pastor still recovering from his surgery, it was up to Joe to give the message.  Rick met us to go along and lead the singing.  I'm all ready to go out the door when I realized I had never made the song sheets with the scripture on the back.  Oops!  At least we were early enough that I had time to quickly run off the words to Holy, Holy, Holy!  It was a good thing I did because those ladies really like to sing and when they saw what the song was they were all saying, "I know this one!"  Pastor Ralph, Joe, Rick and I have a great love for these lovely ladies who come to our service each week.

After the service the three of us headed to Bristol, PA and the King George II Inn.  We had seen online that they were offering a free dinner to veterans today.  So we had made a reservation.  How very kind all these restaurants are to offer their meals to these men and women.  Rick had never been to either Bristol or King George Inn so he was very interested to go.  We took the "scenic route" there and it took about 40 minutes to get there.  On the way home we took I-95 and it took only 15 minutes to get home.

It was hard to find parking, but I kept driving and we found street parking in a handicapped area.  Here's Joe feeding the parking meter.

I knew the sunlight wouldn't last much longer so I took pictures of the Delaware River while it was still light out.  I just love this area.

That's Burlington, NJ in the background.  Rick kept asking if I was sure he was looking at another state.  Yes, Rick, I'm sure.

We got seated at a table right next to a window.  It was great and I took pictures out the window while we were waiting for our waitress to take our order.

This tree was so beautiful.  It would have been magnificent if the sun were shining on it.

And here's the man of the hour.

Rick asked that his picture not be taken.  And for some reason I never thought to take my own picture like I often do.

The food was delicious.  We started off with warm poppy seed rolls with butter and sundried tomato butter.  Then Joe got a salad and chicken parmesan over penne pasta.  Rick got fish and chips.  I got salmon dijonaisse with green beans and spinach.  The dish came with green beans and wild rice but I switched out the rice to keep the carbs down.  I wasn't thinking, though, and ate the roll.  When I counted up my carbs, that roll really did me in.  But it would have been worse if I had gotten the rice.

As we ate it got darker and darker.

It was so pretty, but by the time we left it was dark and I took a wrong turn on the way home.  Fortunately I was able to turn around in a parking lot and find my way back to where I was supposed to be.

Now I have to get ready for our last Ladies Bible Study of the year.  After the study I have lots of errands to run so it's another busy day.  But then it looks as if I have a couple of days that are less hectic.  We'll see how it turns out.

I hope you all have a great Tuesday!

Kathy

  4. Thanks to Joe for his service. We also ate at a local restaurant that gave a prime rib dinner to veterans and Grenville is a Navy veteran as was our friend's husband. Another couple joined us and he was an Air Force veteran. We also went to a parade in downtown on Sunday.

  6. It is wonderful that restaurants honor Vets. I have read a number of posts where Vets took advantage of the kind offers. You are brave to drive after dark; I rarely do. Holy Holy Holy is a good one for a song and the Doxology is another great one if you ever forget the song sheets again. 😉
