HOW CAN I DO MY MORNING ROUTINE WITHOUT WATER?

Hello, friends!  Going through old pictures I found this one of a rose that I colored sometime last year.  I saved it because it is so pretty!  Just lovely.

A few days ago, our hot water heater broke.  I went down the basement to do the wash and I heard "drip, drip."  I looked over and saw a puddle.  Wasn't sure what was going on, but Joe looked at it and sure enough there was a hole in the bottom of it.  Fortunately, it was just a crack and didn't flood the entire place.  I called the plumber, and they couldn't get here to replace it until today.  So, it has been cold showers and not doing dishes.  What a time!

There is always a good side though.  We had to move a lot of things out of the way for the plumber to bring in a new heater.  Does anyone know how heavy a small bookcase filled with books is?  I do now.  As I was moving things, I found so much trash!  Buried behind and under things.  I thought I had just a pile of notebooks.  Surprise!  Pens, pencils, hair bands, and even my hard drive backup.  So now I am on a mission to clear out the house.  Everything!  It will take a while, but I am determined to do it.  Things that were important to me a few years ago seem worthless now.  I find that as I get older (shh.  I'm not supposed to let people know that is happening to me) I want less and actually need less.  My sister said to me a few weeks ago that when we are in our 20s and 30s we acquire things.  When we are in our 60s and 70s we get rid of them.  I think she is right!

In the meantime, I think I will go downstairs and admire my new hot water heater.  The one that took almost all my money to replace.  And I will definitely be running a warm shower.  It's too hot to take a hot one.

See you all later.

Kathy

  1. I'm only in my late 50's, but I'm already trying to unacquire things. I've already done some decluttering and donated the stuff. Now I think I'm going to do a garage sale with my mom and daughter. I think the way the world is and the inflation we have to deal with also has a lot to do with the different mindset. I'm glad you got a new hot water heater and didn't have to have a flood to find the problem. My mom just went through the same thing and got her new one installed today, too. Have a great week!

  2. I agree about the rose.I especially love the various shadings. Yay for the new water heater! I remember when ours went on our previous house. It seemed like i was heating water forever! My lesson from the pioneer women. They were tough!

  3. Hi Kathy, I'm glad you found the water heater problem before it got worse. I agree with you on the decluttering. I try to keep up with delcuttering but there's always more. My garage could use a good decluttering too:( Sometimes I think I'd be happy living in a studio apartment with very little but I still like living in my home with all it's required maintenance.

  4. I get in the mood to go through things and get rid of things but then the mood passes! lol But it's a good thing to do and needs to be ongoing...around here anyway!

  5. I'm glad you got a new water heater. I like the fact we still had hot water when out of power for 9 days last Feb 2021. Gas run water heater and cooking stove. I need to down size stuff we have too. Mid 60 aged me and husband. One room at a time will help. Take care.

  6. Hi Kathy. Amen to getting rid of stuff. It can be hard to do though, but good for you for having the commitment. You are an example to me. Glad you were able to get your hot water heater replaced. We will probably need to do that before too long as well. I hope you are feeling better. See you again soon, I hope!

If it isn't one thing, it's 5 others. After replacing your dish washer, I'm sure replacing your hot water heater wasn't a welcoming idea. At 70, I have the bug to downsize. I've gone through my sewing/craft room and given away quite a bit to sewing friends. I would like to move to a smaller place meaning no acreage. After living here 46 years, my husband loves the property but it is too much for us to maintain. I want to live in a tract home with a 'normal' size yard. Each year we think we'll move but change is hard.

    1. Patty, this is just the place I am at. Four story house too big to deal with. Yard is a lot of work. But I've been here for 42 years. Change is hard but I have to do it.
