HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Hello, friends!  Welcome to 2021.  May it be a better year than last year was.  I say this every year, but this time there is a lot more meaning behind it.

How is your year so far?  Mine has been lazy.  But I figured yesterday was a holiday.  So today I am getting busy.  I have let my house go so badly.  And I mean bad!  This is the year I get things out of the house and get the place clean.  How do we let things collect?  My sister has a theory that we spend the first half of our life acquiring things because we have nothing and the second half of our life getting rid of things because we have too much.  I think she is right!

Several years ago my brother Larry and I photographed the sunrise each day for a year.  It was so fun seeing how things changed.  I don't know if I will make it an entire year, but I am starting with photographing sunrise for the month of January.  I am usually up anyway because the sun rises so late this time of year.  So here is the photo I took yesterday on the first day of 2021.  The sun rose at 7:22 a.m.

It was strange to not have the New Year's Mummers Parade this year here in Philly.  There has been a parade for over 100 years.  I understand why it was cancelled, but it was still strange.  One of our local stations decided to do something about this.  They went through the archives and showed highlights of the different Comic, Fancy and String Band divisions from the last 10 years.  It wasn't the same as seeing the parade, but it was still good and just about as long.  Five hours.  I recorded it and will watch some each day for the next few days.  I saw some of the comics and some of the string bands, but I was doing other things so now I will sit and watch a half hour each day.  That was such a thoughtful thing for the station to do.

For dinner last night I made a pork roast, mashed potatoes and had peas and carrots.  We usually have pork or ham for New Year's.  Since we had ham for Christmas, I got the pork.  It was so good!  After a couple of hours we had ice cream for dessert. We were too full to eat it right away.

Let me show you the calendars I have chosen to share with you this year.  The flower this month is a purple crocus in the snow.

The breathtaking view is Uinta Mountains in Utah.  So pretty!

And this year I have added two more calendars that I just love.  The first one is the Nature's Wonder calendar.  The blue jays are so pretty.

And the last is from the Morehead Collection.  These little darlings are too cute for words.  Ice skating anyone?  And the caption that says Sweep along!  Glide!  Dip and Slide!  Poor little girl can't stay on her skates.  But at least she has a friend to catch her.

And now I have to run and get my day started.  It is almost time to take my sunrise photo.

Before I forget, thank you to everyone who visited my vlog.  I can't believe the last time I looked 17 people had subscribed.  This is incredible to me.  I have an idea for another post and I hope to get it up sometime tomorrow.  If you want to see something on it, please let me know and if I can do it, I will.

Thanks for stopping by.  I will be seeing you soon.

Until later...

Kathy

  1. Happy New Year! I have never seen the Mummers Parade, but would love to one day. My grandfather's family had deep ties to Philadelphia so I've heard about it all my life...and I grew up among great parade watchers. My dad never missed a local one! Looking forward to your pictures and posts this year. Enjoy your weekend!

  2. Hi Kathy. I love the sunrise idea. We had a beautiful sunrise over the mountains here this morning. Your meals always look so delicious. I am enjoying your Vlog and would love to have you take us on a tour of your home. I find historic Philly row houses fascinating, and would love to see more of yours. Just an idea. Have a good weekend.

  3. That's an intriguing project to take photographs of the sunrise each day in January. Congrats on the success of the vlog! Well done. I'm sure it's not easy. I'm in total agreement with your sister's philosophy. Yup, sounds just about right to me.

  4. I'm not an early riser and we really can't see the sunrise anyway so I will enjoy your pictures! I'm getting rid of things too...just no room here for anything I don't need...well, maybe a little room ☺
    Have a great day!

  5. I like the idea of taking a sunrise photo each day. Hmmm, I'm not always up before sunrise but it might be fun to do it on the days I am up and moving! (I guess I like sleeping in too much.) :)

  6. Happy New Year! I'm up most days by the sunrise but our woods hide it until the sun is well above the trees. I get more sunsets than rises! Plus it's been so cloudy. I call this our "grey" season! I cherish any sunny day! I've been getting rid of stuff too and feel good with every bag to Goodwill! Have a good Sunday!

  10. I kinda missed the mummers too. I love the costumes! One of the cable stations has picked up the old cartoons. They're airing at 7am all week.I totally enjoyed the preview of Bugs Bunny,Daffy Duck,Tom & Jerry even Pepe LePew! I was like a child again seeing them. The calenders are so pretty, especially the crocus & bluejays! Enjoy your day!

  11. Aww Kathy, don't get me started on decluttering the house. ha! I would love to declutter but it's hard isn't it? First, it takes work and second... nope, I'm not listing anymore excuses. I will start with the many, many cups I have in my cupboard today and pack them up for the Goodwill. See how easy that was? ha!

  12. I love the first of a new year and I'm always cleaning out and getting rid of but I really do at the beginning of a new year. I'm an organizational geek, my parents were the same, so I've really never known any other way. We live on a hill and have some of the most beautiful sunrises. I should take a picture of them each day. That would be fun and interesting. Thanks for stopping by and a happy one to you!

  13. Your sister may have it right, Kathy, and cleaning and decluttering never seem to end. Both are on my list again this week and year. I hope this will be a better and happier new year for everyone, but it certainly will take time. Good luck with the sunrise photo project. I am up early but too lazy to get out of bed for a photo opp.
