Hello, friends. It is hot here in Philadelphia. Very hot. Extremely hot. Did I mention that it is hot? Our heat index is 107*F (42*C). Needless to say I am in the house in the air conditioning.
I thought I would tell you about last Sunday when we had a goodbye lunch at church for our friend, Rick. Rick is a missionary who has been working with us for the last two years. He has been invaluable to us in our ministry. He has done Youth Group, visitation, street witnessing, goes with us to the Nursing Home (when we could go) and so much more. I don't know what we are going to do without him. But I understand this was a temporary thing and he is going back out on the field.
Here are some pictures that Joe and I took during the luncheon. Everyone contributed something.
Here is Rick holding the cake we bought him.
Chips and broccoli salad
Dorothea's famous potato salad
Ham and cheese
Turkey and cheese (and rolls)
It was a beautiful cake from Haegle's Bakery. They are so fond of Rick that they gave it to us for free.
We all social distanced while we ate.
Rick is so tall that he decided to squat to cut the cake.
It was nice to have something social to do in this time of being isolated. We all had a great time.
Hope you are having some happy times these days also.
Kathy
It is always sad to say goodbye to a friend. How wonderful that he is returning to the mission field. So good, too, that you all found a way to have a little party. ☺️ It has cooled here today and the cooling has been so welcome. Hope that better temps arrive for you folks soon.
ReplyDeleteOh I understand about the heat.. it's that hot here in South Carolina and I too stay in the AC most of the time during July and August. Just too hot to do anything else. Its tough saying good bye to someone you care for so much. We have our Priests who also get reassigned from time to time as well and it's a rough goodbye but like Jesus they are to go into the world and not stay in one place forever but on us it's hard to say good bye.. Everything looked so nice. What a lovely send off for him..
ReplyDeleteWhat a blessing he is to your church. Praying for your church!
ReplyDeleteAnd praying for cooler weather.
What a nice luncheon but for a rather sad reason. The cake is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteIt is so hot! We just had a mild storm, mostly rain but don't think it will cool off much. This has certainly been a hot July so far.
Please take care! Stay well!
Hi Kathy - boy you are hot there in Philly! We aren't that hot here and it has been cooler and rainy today. That is a beautiful cake. So glad you could gather with your friends to wish your friend Rick well. Hope your weather cools down soon. Enjoy the rest of the week.
ReplyDeleteWhat a special man your Rick is! Your love for him shows in all the special foods and cake!
ReplyDeleteIt’s hot everywhere I guess. I was not in a good mood today! Hot and sweaty. Plus Tabitha walked through my pallets this afternoon tracking red oil paint onto the tablecloth and window sill. I got scratched up good as I tried to clean her paws with turpentine. I hope she doesn’t get sick because she must have cleaned herself up real good! Her paws are as clean as they can be! Once one of my dogs ate part of a tube of oil paint! That was years ago and she didn’t even get sick!
You are so right. Rick is a great guy & will be greatly missed.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a lovely time. God bless Rick and many good wishes for him as he moves on.
ReplyDeleteThose social gatherings are so precious now, and that was a great thank you to Rick for his help in missions work.
ReplyDeleteWhat a nice thing to celebrate Rick. I pray all goes well for him in his mission work. Our lead pastor, Jesse, is on sabbitical leave and miss him and his family. He needed to be away but thought about staying but enought pastors and elders to take care of church people and sermons. He'd not been on one for years and really needed to do it soon. One of his sons has lyme disease and that has stressed the family some. I was to make a potato salad for 4th of July but not able to make it after the injury I had. Soon to make one, I hope. Stay cool, my friend!
