A GLIMPSE OF PHILLY

Here we are again with another glimpse of Philly.

Who else would you call when you want to buy or sell a house?  You get a realitter.

The Tacony-Palmyra Bridge.  Tacony is a neighborhood in Philly.  Palmyra is a town in New Jersey.  And here you see the beautiful Delaware River.  The bridge is so close to me that I can see it from my house.

But we in Philadelphia know what a Wawa is.  Named after Wawa, Pennsylvania, it is the best convenience store in the country.  It's logo is the wawa goose.

Name and logo. The chain's name comes from the site of the company's first milk plant and corporate headquarters in the Wawa, Pennsylvania area. The name of the town Wawa is in turn derived from the Ojibwe word for the Canada goose (taken from The Song of Hiawatha).

Have a good day!

A GLIMPSE OF PHILLY

Welcome to another Glimpse of Philly.  Hope you are enjoying these.  Here's your glimpse for today.

Yeah, that sounds right.

A lovely shot of the Art Museum at sunset.

The sun setting over the Philly skyline.  This is one of my favorite shots.  Looking at this I can imagine people of the past facing west and wondering what kind of land was out there and then heading to Ohio, Illinois, Kentucky and Tennessee.  My great-grandmother's aunt and uncle joined a covered wagon train in the 1800s that left from center city heading in just that direction.

More later.

A GLIMPSE OF PHILLY

Time for another glimpse of Philly.

Well, they aren't Beagles.

This is scrapple.  A Philadelphia delicacy.  Mostly it's fried like this and served at breakfast.  It is called scrapple because it is made from -- well, uh, scraps left over from other pork products.  Like...  well, ears, snout, etc.  You either love it or hate it.  I'm not fond of it although I eat it, but Joe and my sister love it.  It doesn't taste bad at all.  I just don't like the texture.

Let's end with something a little prettier -- downtown Philly.  It really is a pretty city.

And that's it for this time.

A GLIMPSE OF PHILLY

Welcome to another edition of A Glimpse of Philly.  Here's what I have for you today.

What else would you call it?

The Italian Market -- a South Philly landmark.  You can get anything there and all the food is really good.  It's just like shopping at an outdoor market in Italy.  (Or so I'm told.  I wouldn't know never having been to Italy.)

You can make a soft pretzel into any shape you want.  Go Phillies!

A GLIMPSE OF PHILLY

Welcome to another Glimpse of Philly post.  Hope you are enjoying these as much as I am.  I look for interesting things to show you.  So here's today's glimpse.

Not a sub.  No, never!

Who hasn't dreamed of running up the Art Museum steps pretending they are Rocky?

Yes, the clothespin statue!  It is a famous landmark.  Meet me by the clothespin is heard all over the city.

And that's it for this time. Love from Philly!

A GLIMPSE OF PHILLY

Welcome to another glimpse of Philly.  Here's the pictures I found for you this time.

No, I don't think so.  Unless it's a warm soft pretzel with mustard!

Image result for how to speak philadelphian lightening bugs

Oh yes!  I used to love being outside on a summer night as a child watching all the lightening bugs.  Or as we said, "Lite-nin".  Ha, ha!  Because no one says firefly around here.

Isn't that the truth!  I've sat on the Schuylkill for many an hour.

Have a good day and welcome to Philly!
