MONDAY MAGAZINE

Hello friends!  I was going to say "Good morning" but then realized just because I am writing this in the morning doesn't mean you will be reading it then.  But I do hope each of you have a wonderful Monday.

My tooth continues to heal.  I think.  Only twice yesterday did I have to take pain killers and each time it was right after I tried to eat something a little tough for me.  Today is cold so I think maybe soup is on the menu.  Easy for me and warming.

My knee is much better.  I kept off of it for most of the day and elevated it.  It still has a twinge, but I can walk on it today.  Not overdoing it though.

I have finished three magazines and a fourth is almost finished.  Each week I want to share these with you and either I don't post or something else is going on.  Today I am determined to post at least one.  I finished this some time ago so it's a little out of date.  It is a Family Circle magazine from October 2011.

I actually got this from the library when they were getting rid of their old magazines.  We used to sell them for 10 cents each.  This looked interesting and I wanted to know how to make cake pops.

It was an OK magazine, but not really a lot I was interested in.  Let me show you some of my favorite articles.

First was some tablescapes.  I always like setting a pretty table.  They had some nice ideas for candle holders.  Like these gourds and mini pumpkins.  So cute.

These candles in lanterns was a great idea.  Very easy to see the person seated across from you.

And this was very clever.  Glass cylinders with nuts in them to hold the candles upright.

Next I turned to an article on decorating Halloween cakes.  A little late for this year, but still great ideas.  How about a sheet cake with sugar cookie tombstones?  Great!

Spiderweb cupcakes.  These are easy to do.  I never thought of making these for Halloween.

And the cake pops.  The reason I bought the magazine.  So very cute!  I wonder if I will remember to do them next year.

I've been watching a lot of Thanksgiving and Christmas cooking and baking shows on TV.  It makes me want to get into the kitchen.  But there is so much to do around the house that I can't do this every day.  Besides, Joe and I would weigh a ton each eating everything I want to make.  I did make bread pudding the other day to use up all the odds and ends of loaves of bread we had in the fridge.  It is an old (like 100 + years old) recipe handed down in my family.  It turned out so good.  Joe loves bread pudding and especially mine.  It was also easy to eat.  I want to make some egg custard today.  (Also easy to eat.)  And then next week I will be making our family's pumpkin pie.  It is another recipe that has been made in our family for over 200 years.  It is a sweet custard and not like anything else I've ever tasted.  I've already promised a pie to my next door neighbors.  They love it.

And now I will get myself ready for the day.  So much to do.  But I am taking it slowly because I still am not fully myself.  What gets done, gets done and I don't beat myself up about what isn't finished at the end of the day.  Something done is better than nothing.

I hope you all have a productive day also.  Take care everyone.

Kathy

  4. I'm glad your feeling better today. Be sure you follow your own advice and don't overdo anything today. I love seeing food ideas in magazines (not so much on TV...I don't know why) and love to try new recipes, but I don't make half of what I'd like to because we just couldn't eat it all. I'm very excited because the new casino opening up about 15 minutes from us is going to have Guy Fieri's restaurant in it. I can't wait to try it out! My daughter was into making cake pops a few years ago. They were yummy, but boy, was my kitchen a mess! Happy Monday to you!

  11. Oh no, Kathy! Sorry to hear about your tooth . . . tooth pain is terrible! I am glad that the problem is responding to the antibiotic. Hope you are able to get it fixed soon.

I love setting the table for Thanksgiving. I love the lanterns, but I also love the candles in gourds. I did that for a Thanksgiving table many years ago and it was simply and pretty.
