Hello Friends! Welcome to a beautiful Sunday.
Our opening hymn this morning is "Glorious Is Thy Name" by Baylus B. McKinney. It is also known by the title "Blessed Savior, We Adore Thee." He wrote it while serving as Music Editor for the Sunday School Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. It was written and published in 1942. Because it is so recent (less than 100 years) and there are copyright laws I could find very little about either this man or the hymn. Everywhere I turned I ran into the words "We cannot show more because of copyright laws." But here's what I could find.
It was first published in the July 1942 magazine The Teacher a publication for Baptist Sunday School teachers. It was included in the Baptist Hymnal of 1956 and has been in all subsequent editions (1975, 1991, 2008). McKinney's tune is titled "Glorious Name."
Mr. McKinney died in 1952 at 66 years of age.
And here is a sweet choir singing this beautiful hymn.
Have a wonderful Sunday!
