AND SO THE WEEK BEGINS

How is your week so far?  It's been busy for me but only one more day and I'll actually have a day off.  It's been a long week.  I thought I would get rid of 9 day work weeks when I retired.  Boy was I wrong.  But at least what I'm doing now is what I want to do (at least for the most part).

On Sunday we had a guest speaker, Pastor Ralph, at our morning service.  He is a candidate to be our new pastor so we had a "Meet and Greet" luncheon afterwards.  Most people were able to stay.  When I ordered the food for the Ladies' Brunch, I ordered a cold lunch for Sunday and they were delivered together.  So all Genny and I had to do was pull the lunch meat, rolls, bread and salads out of the fridge and set things up.  I was so busy I didn't get the chance to take any pictures, but we had a full house and everything was good.

We have some food left over even though people were taking things home with them.  I had been up since 2:30 a.m. (thank you neighbors who decided to party on our sidewalk in the wee morning hours) so I was beat by 3:00 p.m.  I told Genny to just put everything in the fridge and we would deal with it today at Bible Study.  I'll take some zipper bags with me and we can package up the lunch meat and give it out.

I also divided up the roses.  I gave some to one of our ladies, some to Pastor Ralph's wife Carolyn, and Genny and I took the rest.

When we got home Joe and I were out in the yard and Joe was bothered by some dead branches on one of our rose bushes.  He decided now was the time to cut it back.  But... he accidentally cut off a branch with blooms on it.  Oops!  He felt really bad about it, but I told him not to worry.  I cut off those roses before throwing out the branch and added them to the roses I brought home.  The bouquet is really pretty.

We took naps in the afternoon and then I made lamb chops, baked potatoes and broccoli for dinner.

Here is the 8:30 p.m. sunset on Sunday.  Look, there's no rain!

Yesterday I had to take Joe to the Veterans Hospital for his yearly visit with his primary doctor.  I sat in the waiting room reading my library book while he was in with the doctor.  There was a guy there who was complaining about everything.  I mean EVERYTHING!  Oh my, there wasn't one good thing in the entire world.  The nurses were bad.  The doctors were bad.  The news on the TV was bad.  The world was crazy.  Everyone in the world was crazy.  He was the only sane one.  And he wanted to talk to me the whole time.  Uh-huh.  Yeah.  I just agreed with him and went on reading.

We got in and out a lot faster than I expected.  That was good because I am hurting badly from my arthritis.  We were going to go out to eat, but instead I just made some chicken thighs, mashed potatoes and mixed veggies.  We've got to save money.

It was another beautiful 8:30 p.m. photo.  I think we're finally beginning to dry out a bit.

And now I will leave you fine folks until later.  I have to print out the handouts for Bible Study today, eat breakfast, and get my self dressed to go out.  Hope you all have a wonderful day.

    1. Thanks, Laurie. It certainly is cheaper to eat at home. We like to eat out but I can do dinner for the two of us for $5. Can't buy it for that.

  2. Oh sweet Kathy...You are going to think to yourself one day, "How did I ever have time to work" LOL. I think we made ourselves crunch our time better when we worked. You and Joe are such good people. I like reading about how you care for each other. Our mates are our best friends. Blessings, xoxo, Susie
p.s. Kathy the grumbly old fellow made me think of a child in my daughter's class...he's the saddest boy ever.Breaks my heart.

    1. Oh, Sweetpea!! You need a vacation in a quiet room with just the sound of the ocean waves through the window-sheers. Isn't it a fact that when we have "spare time" we don't have any to spare?

I echo Susie about you and Joe---you have the dearest, tenderest, most giving hearts, and I just hope they don't wear your hands out. I know your church friends really appreciate you.

      Happy Middle of May!

PS There's just sump'n about a Doctor's office that can get you trapped with the Pessimists of the world. I always hope they'll be feeling better after unloading their grumbles and seeing the doctor.

    2. Susie, I'm already thinking that. I'm so busy all the time, but it's a good busy because it's something I like to do and if I get too tired, I can stop and take a nap or read a book. And I know my former boss is happier too because at the end my arthritis was so bad I just couldn't do the job I wanted to do.

Yes, I believe every husband and wife should be each other's best friend.

    3. Rachel, this is just the worst week of the month. Fun times coming in a couple of days. But even though I've been working hard, it's still been fun. A day with ocean waves is close -- I hope. I'm trying to get down the shore sometime soon.

  3. A busy week is better than a dull or sick week. Glad you're enjoying retirement. I hear it can be busier than when one works. Right now I feel busy. Most likely will go with Megan tomorrow evening to look at a car that is a possible one for her. Thankful it's friends we know that own it. Maybe meet up with Phil and look at it together then go eat somewhere. A couple weeks ago I could have used a day away at the beach as well. Ended up shopping by myself for awhile and it was the release I needed to just be away. I only bought what I was looking for. Added a couple spring blouses to my wardrobe. Take care and God's blessings to you and Joe.
