HAPPY NEW YEAR

Happy New Year, friends!  I hope you all had a great night last night and an even better day today.

We stayed up to see the New Year in.  My sister had given me a couple of bayberry candles and we burned one of them.

Do you know the bayberry candle poem?

“These bayberry candles come from a friend. So on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve burn it down to the end. For a bayberry candle burned to the socket will bring joy to the heart and gold to the pocket.”

We burned it almost all the way down.  But since I couldn't find a candleholder and had tissue wrapped around the bottom to make it larger and shoved it into a little glass, I was afraid of having a big fire.  So, when it was almost done, I had Joe blow it out.  Now I find out that if you don't let it burn out on its own it will bring bad luck.  Oh my!  I do not need any more bad luck.  But since I do not believe in luck but believe everything is in God's hands, I am not too worried about it.

We set out some meat, cheese, crackers, cookies and yogurt pretzels and snacked on them for several hours.

We ended up watching "Frozen" which Joe loves.  Then at midnight we switched on Times Square and watched the ball drop.  It was a nice, peaceful evening.

Hope you had a peaceful evening also.  I hope 2022 brings all of you much joy.

Until later...

Kathy

  6. Hi Kathy. That sounds like a nice New Year's Eve. My parents used to have Bayberry Candles when I was growing up, but I had never heard or this tradition. Sounds like you had a lovely New Year's Eve. One of my granddaughters used to LOVE Frozen and she would watch it over and over when she was younger. It's a great movie! I hope you have a wonderful New Year. You are right - God is in charge! May He bless you and Joe richly in the coming year. :-)

  8. Happy New Year dear friend, it looks like you had a lovely one !
Next time you want a candle to stand up straight in the holder, light the bottom of the candle and allow to drip in the container/holder, place the candle on top of the wet wax and hold until set.
Be safe Kathy and Joe, blessings to the bothe of you !
    Hugs,
    Jo

  9. Well I am sure I did as I slept through it. I have never heard about bayberry candles. Now I don't believe in luck good or bad either, but I still didn't do any laundry on New Year's Day. ๐Ÿงบ

  10. You did better than me...I was tired and went to bed as usual. Good choice for a movie! Ellen and I saw it in 3D at the theater and now have the DVD so we have watched it many times since. Never heard that about bayberry candles. Wishing you a really good 2022! We all could use a little better year, couldn't we?!

  12. Happy New Year to you and Joe! We had seafood lasagna leftover from lunch with friends earlier in the day and Tim snoozed from about 9-11:45 when I woke him up to watch the ball drop and toast the new year. Our granddaughter has turned me into a Frozen fan, though I like the second one best because of Kristof's 80's style power ballad. lol

  13. Looks like a good end of the year for you. I don't believe in luck at all. It's all about God helping us in life. I had a busy day at work on Saturday. Alot of customers come in to buy food for lunch. I worked as cashier and did a relatively good job. Then cleaned tables. I've not seen Frozen. We watched something produced by King and Country "Silent Night at Bible Museum". Good music and a slight tour of the museum that's in Washington, DC. Happy New Year to you and Joe!!--Becky

  14. A lovely blogpost Kathy.
You say you are one of ten? I'd be interested to hear more about that. What was it like? Do you still get on with all your siblings? Where did you come in the family? I'm the mother of nine and my dearest wish is that they all love and help one another.
Wishing you a Holy and Happy 2022
    God Bless
