MEMORIAL DAY COOKOUT

Saturday morning I headed to my sister, Elaine's, house for our annual cookout.  Joe was still too sick to go (in fact he is still sick) but told me to go without him.  I was the last one arriving.  I had to stop and get gas and there's always the last minute things I have to do.

It's a 2 hour drive and when I got there they were just beginning to eat.  The rest of this post is going to be picture over kill but I hope you enjoy it anyway.

My brother, Larry, and our friend, Rich.

Our friend, Frank.

Me and my sweet sister-in-law, Kim.

There were a bunch of these big black birds.  We thought they were crows.  They were loud and fighting with the robins.  They also ate anything we dropped.  Like potato chips.  And cheese puffs.  Strange.

 Larry is my youngest brother.

Here he took a hot dog off of the grill and is pretending to smoke it like a cigar.

Marion and Rich.  (Mrs. & Mr.)

Elaine is a great hostess.  And those grapes on the table were so good!

She got a big birthday cake for the three birthday people.  Too bad Joe wasn't there.  She sent home the piece with his name on it for him.

Marion is taking off her jacket as Elaine lights the candles.  As the day went on, it got cool.  I was glad I had brought a sweater too.

Blowing out the candles.

Showing off the t-shirt Elaine got her.

Frank opening the gift from me and Joe.  That watermelon mug is double insulated and keeps drinks very cold.  Great for summer.

Elaine also got Marion pretty glasses with turquoise fish to use outside this summer.

Joe and I got Marion a solar powered light up globe with a cherub on top.

The rhododendrons by the front door were gorgeous!

The marigolds were beautiful too.  Elaine planted each one, one at a time.

She also put together these pretty baskets.

I didn't ask, but I have a feeling Elaine made this pretty wreath too.

And here we are just before I left.

Fortunately I left in time that it was light all the way home.  I hate doing that drive in the dark.  It was such a fun day.  I'm glad I went even though I really missed Joe.

Hope you all had a great Memorial Day weekend.

Kathy

  1. Kathy, What wonderful fun. Your sister was so sweeet to send Joe cake with his name. I can see why you both get along so well...both sweet. I love the gift you gave Marion. That hot-dog thing your brother did...just looks like something my own brothers would do. so funny. Blessings to all, hope Joe is better. xoxo, Susie

Sorry Jow was - and IS - sick. Glad you got to go anyway as I'm sure he didn't want you to miss out on the party. Elaine's home, yard and gardens are just as lovely as she is!

  6. What fun gifts for your friends and looks like a good time. So sorry to know that Joe is still not feeling well enough to enjoy the party time bbq! I like driving in light better than darkness. Worse if the road has much curves and in the forest. Not fun! Thanks for letting me know that the sunset was your favorite photo of mine. I like it as well. Take care and hope Joe feels better soon.
