I got out of there a lot quicker than I had anticipated. Since I hadn't eaten breakfast, I went home, got something to eat, and then headed for Shop Rite to get the cards and cake for work.
Neither of the birthday girls like cake except for carrot cake. Carrot cake? I HATE carrot cake. BUT I found ONE cake. Yes, there was just one cake left in the entire store. I grabbed it before anyone else could. I needed that carrot cake! Since there were two birthdays (and by now I was running late) I just had them write "Happy Birthday" and left off the names and trying to get them to spell them right. It worked. I grabbed two "from the group" cards that fortunately were entirely appropriate for each of them. I had a choice of three cards and one was masculine so it was good that the other two fit them just right.
I ran out of the store and picked up Diane R. exactly on time. We got to work just as our boss was walking up the sidewalk. Whew!
Around 3:00 p.m. we did the birthday celebrations. It seems we always get together around 3:00, just before all the kids come pouring in after school. I didn't really get a good picture of the cake, but here are a few I did take to show you. I couldn't get Diane B. to turn around to show her face so you just see the back of her.

Jerry's not really going to slash anyone with that knife. He's asking who wants to cut the cake. |

On the agenda for today: Cleaning the living room this morning, working on the book I'm editing and doing a load of wash. This afternoon we will spend at the V.A. Hospital for Joe's consultation. Tonight is Bible Study at church. BUT I bought the cookies for tonight (little heart Valentines) instead of making them so I saved myself some time and work there. It's always a busy day in our house.
Kathy, Hoping things go well for Joe. You did well with the big cake for two ladies to share. Hope you have a moment or two to relax today. Blessings, xoxo,Susie
ReplyDeleteYou are a 'busy bee' for sure, and your kindness and thoughtfulness shows. Hope the trip to the VA hospital is good. I know your Bible study group will enjoy those cookies. God bless.
ReplyDeleteYou sure pacK a lot into your days! AND you WORK! I remember talking to Summer about all she was doing and how she juggled her schedule. She said, "WORK is SO time consuming !" That became one of our favorite sayings! I am looking forward to your retirement ! You KNOW you and Joe need to travel! And you will hopefully come to Texas!
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to your co-workers.
ReplyDeleteHow fun to celebrate each-others birthdays and carrot cake looks delicious.
Have a great day.
I just made sure there was Marshmallow Creme and cream cheese in the house, for the Carrot Cake for Sunday's brunch, We had those tee-ninecy dishes of dessert last week at a restaurant, like little doll dishes with a quarter-serving of things (though you could sample every one if you liked), and my wee wedge of moist, rich, spicy carrot cake just whetted my longing for some.
ReplyDeleteHope you're staying well and warm!!
