IT'S BEEN A BUSY WEEK

Hello, friends!  Hope you are having a wonderful week.  Here it is Thursday already and another week is almost in the books.  Time is really flying by.  It seems especially so since I have had so much to do this week.  I have really enjoyed having a lot of time to myself and am not looking forward to having every day filled again.  I had gotten into a routine with my cleaning schedule and had gotten so much done but now I'm back where I started.

Sunday was church and two special speakers.  We had a gentleman from the Gideons come.  He was very interesting.  When I walked in, he introduced himself to me and shook my hand.  It was so "normal" that I didn't even think about shaking hands with him.  Afterwards I thought, "Oh, I shouldn't have done that."   But I keep my hands clean and it all seems to have been fine.

The second speaker was Pastor Dan who had been our guest speaker just two weeks earlier.  He was excellent.  I tape the messages and so was almost through his message when the battery in my camera died.  Oh no!  But it was at the very end, so I missed only about 10 minutes.  I think I will still post it and mark it "partial".

Monday I actually had no where to go but ended up sleeping most of the day and got nothing done.

That was not good because on Tuesday Joe, Donna and I went food shopping.  Monday night I had cleaned out the freezer and it was almost empty.  So was the fridge and the pantry.  We needed a lot and we got them.  It is enough to last us the entire month until we go shopping in August.  We had quite the time putting things away so I did not take any pictures of the haul.  But there were over 20 bags.  Shopping lasted almost 4 hours between picking Donna up and taking her back home, doing the shopping itself, and putting things away.  I was exhausted.

Yesterday I had an afternoon doctor's appointment.  Things in my blood test were looking good.  Except... they forgot to test my thyroid AGAIN.  This is the second time they forgot to put on the test sheet for the lab that it is not just the usual A1C, cholesterol, iron level, liver function, etc.  So I had to have more blood taken.  At least I wasn't charged for the second test.  I did hear Dr. Barbara saying to the techs (and not too nicely either) that this was the second time they messed up and I had better not be charged.  The tech kept apologizing to me.  I told her everyone makes mistakes and not to worry about it.

By this time the headache I had started the day with had grown into a full blown migraine.  I managed to make dinner (pizza and a salad) and went to bed in a dark and quiet room.  I slept about 3 hours and that helped a lot.

Again, nothing was done in the house.  The wash is piling up, the dishes are in the sink, and the living room looks like someone trashed it.  *sigh*  The fact that it is so hot doesn't help at all.  I haven't even been in the yard to continue on with my gardening.  It is in the high 90s F. (30s C.) so I am rather sluggish and just want to stay in the air conditioning.

I'm sorry there are no pictures in this post.  I haven't even done that!  But that's life.  I am supposed to be over at church in half an hour to pick something up from the pastor, but I am not going to make it.  I haven't even had breakfast let alone get dressed.  I still have to take one more medication before I can eat.  I am going to get off of here and give him a call to let him know I will be over this afternoon instead.

I hope you all have a wonderful day.  Tomorrow I think I can actually stay home and do something.  Yes, I'm spoiled with not having anything I HAVE to do.

Until later...

Kathy

INDEPENDENCE DAY

Hello, friends!  Hope you all had a wonderful day.  I am sitting in the living room watching wonderful fireworks through the front window.  I went outside on the front step and took a video to show you.

Then I decided to zoom in a little to see them better.

Of course now that I am inside the big fireworks are going off.  Oh well.

It was a rather low key day for me.  I have been watching a series, well a couple of series, on Amazon Prime.  The first one I watched was "Pioneer Quest: A Year in the Real West."  This is part of a series by Frantic Films and like the rest of them takes place in Manitoba, Canada.  Well, they are a Canadian documentary series after all.  It was on the History Channel and PBS in 2001 although I never heard of it.  I loved it and if you get a chance to watch it, I highly recommend it.  When I found there were more, I had to watch the next one.

I finished the second series today... "Quest for the Bay."  This is from 2002 (although it was filmed in the summer of 2001) and was also on the History Channel and PBS.  It follows an 8 person volunteer team (7 men and 1 woman) as they attempt to recreate the journey made by fur traders of the Hudson Bay Company during the 1840s by traveling from Winnipeg to Hudson Bay in a York Boat.  They had all kinds of hardships and had to repair their boat over and over.  Twice it was almost destroyed in white water rapids.  They lost most of their cargo.  They had very little food to eat and lots of hard work.  I could not have done what they did.  So very interesting!  Tomorrow I will start the third series, "Klondike: Quest for the Gold."

It was in the 90*F range again today and will be for the foreseeable future.  We did not eat outside.  But I did make a special dinner for us.

Barbecued chicken, deviled eggs, pasta salad and potato salad.  Everything was good.

Jack was in his usual place begging for food.  And who can resist that face.  Yes, he got some chicken.

I even wore my USA shirt.

It was a strange day, but then this whole year has been strange.

I always like reading the letter John Adams wrote to his wife, Abigail, on July 3, 1776.  The Declaration of Independence had been ratified the day before so actually we should be celebrating Independence Day on the 2nd.  Here's what he wrote:

"The second day of July 1776, will be the most memorable Epocha, in the history of America.

"I am apt to believe it will be celebrated, by succeeding Generations, as the great anniversary Festival.  It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance by solemn acts of Devotion to God Almighty.  It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more."

And so it is.

Until later...

WELCOME JULY

Hello friends and welcome to July.  Can you believe the year is half over already?  I am sure having trouble with that.  I think being stuck inside so much makes time fly faster than usual.  And things are not looking better.  Not by a long shot.  Cases of the Covid-19 virus are going up in Pennsylvania as it is in most states.  Who knows what the rest of the year will be like.

So what did happen in June?

For one thing, I have been doing a lot of work in the garden.  I have it about a third done now and it looks so nice.  Yesterday I tried to cut down a small tree.  I got the branches cut off earlier in the week, but I still had the trunk to do.  I got about half of it down, but sawing through it did me in.  That was all I did.  And today I did not go out at all.  It is HOT and I decided that if it is over 90*F (32*C) I am not working outside.  When I got in my car to go to the drugstore today it was 104*F (40*C) in the car.  But I am happy with what I have done and will show you pictures very soon.

They just said on TV that today was the hottest day of the year so far -- 93*F (34*C).  And it is going higher than that next week.

I have also been working on the house a lot and though I am discouraged and don't really see a lot of change, I keep plugging away.  I do see change in the kitchen and that keeps me going I guess.

I haven't been baking as much.  Just too hot to have the oven going.  I did make muffins, but they didn't turn out so good.

I had plans for summer but with some places closing again, who knows what will happen.  Something will I am sure, but who knows what.

Church opened up again and it was really nice to be back with my friends.  We began meeting outside, but have been inside for the past two weeks.  With air conditioning.

I am still working on my temperature blanket.  A lot of it is now yellow for the 80* days we have been having, with a few red stripes for the 90* days.  We have a heat wave coming so the red is going to be featured a lot more.  I didn't expect that and have just a little left over red that I am using, so I might have to hunt out some more red.

Here's a close-up of the month of June.

And that's about it.  Really not much going on.

I changed my calendar page and here's my new picture.  It's the Santa Monica pier in California.  I wouldn't mind being there now.  Except for the virus.

Hope you have a good evening.  We ordered pizza and pasta and it just came so I am heading to the kitchen.  See you soon.

Kathy
