HOMECOMING SUNDAY

Hello, friends!  Hope you are having a good day.  Today is a busy day just like most of my days are.  But before I get started I thought I would tell you about Sunday.  The first Sunday of every November is Homecoming Sunday.  It is the anniversary of the founding of our congregation.  This year we celebrated 97 years.

I went over on Saturday and redid the two bulletin boards.  I didn't get a picture of the one on the lower level, but here is the one at the rear of the sanctuary.  I took down the old, tired, faded green paper and put up a fresh white.  Then I added some fall leaves, pumpkins and a cornicopia.  I put new headings up and took down the out of date items.  I think it turned out good.

We had quite a crowd at Sunday School.  It was nice.

We were having a lunch after the morning service and so all the tables were decorated with either pumpkins or acorns and fall leaves.

In the sanctuary each windowsill had live flowers donated to us by the Hatfield church.  We were told we could each take one home and use it as a reminder to pray for the church.

The morning worship service.  Pastor at the front.

The singing was fantastic.

Prayer request time.

Our sweet Rose almost always has a message of love and a song to sing for us.  This week was no exception.

Pastor's message was about the Christ centered church.  Where we all should be.

The lunch was so delicious.  Everyone donated something -- even some of the visitors.  Pork roast, sweet potatoes, apples and sausage casserole, pasta with tomato sauce and cheese that Joe made, mixed veggies.  There were so many desserts -- apple pie, pumpkin pie, cakes, cookies, rice pudding, and I made a pumpkin dump cake.

I was so busy talking to my friends and eating that I didn't take one picture.  But believe me I did not leave hungry.

I wasn't feeling all that good and wasn't going to stay.  But I'm so glad I did.

And now I am going to go start my day.  See you all later.

MONDAY MAGAZINE ON A TUESDAY

And that's how it feels for sure.  As November came in so did winter.  How cold it feels these days.  Especially in the early morning and at night.  When the sun is out it sort of warms up for awhile.

I was going to write this post yesterday, but I was so busy and then I sat down after dinner to write my lesson for Bible Study today.  And... I fell asleep sitting up with my hands on the keys.  I woke up hours later that way too.  I finally got the lesson done, although not printed out.  I love my Bible Study but I am glad the winter break is coming up in two weeks.

We had a good time at Bible Study yesterday at the Nursing Home.  We had 8 ladies show up.  A man was passing through the room before we began.  He was on his way to the outside porch.  He started talking to Joe and Joe was able to witness to him.  I hope he at least thinks about the things Joe was saying.

Let me get to the magazine today.  It was another Reader's Digest from September 2019.

It was a very good issue.  I especially like "The Teacher Who Changed My Life."  You never know when the things you do or the words you say will make a lasting impact on someone.  It was interesting to read about the middle child too.  I never realized that because a lot of people are opting to have only one or two children, there aren't many middle children anymore.

There was a sweet little story about an 11-year-old girl named Ruby who goes to nursing homes, talking to the residents and asking them if they could have anything, what would it be.  Thinking it would be something like world peace, she was surprised to learn it was things like McDonald's French fries or a visit from their dog that was now living with relatives.  Little Ruby arranges for people to get their wishes.

So many good articles, but let's get to some laughs and cute little stories.

LIFE IN THESE UNITED STATES:
My mother and I suffered through an overlong, confusing movie at an art theater.  Apparently we were not the only dissatisfied patrons.  Walking back to our car afterward, we overheard a man complain to his wife, "We left the dog home alone for that?" - Michele Burgess, Huntington Beach, California

I WON!
Was this a contest?  Sort of.  I bought travel insurance for a trip to London from a company called Squaremouth.  When I got to the seventh page of the contract, I saw a paragraph that said, "It pays to read."  It gave directions to e-mail a particular address.  They called the next day and said I'd won $10,000.  During the 23-hour period before I e-mailed them, 73 policies had been purchased and I was the only one who had read that far. -- Donelan Andrews, age 60, Thomaston, Georgia

My dentist told me I need a crown.  I was like, I KNOW, RIGHT? -- Twitter@ swishergirl24

IT'S ALL IN A DAY'S WORK
Hundreds of Indian passengers were stuck aboard a train for two hours after the conductor abandoned his post.  Turns out he was hot, so he went home to take a cold shower. -- from India Today

Yeah, when I was working I should have tried that one.

Hope you enjoyed this and you all have a great day.

WELCOME NOVEMBER!

Hello, friends!  Can you believe it's November already?  This year is winding down quickly!  Let's look at what happened in October.

The biggest thing I did was clean the house.  A lot.  It looks better but there is still so much more to go.  I hope to have it all done by May and then have a guy come in to paint.  It is something I would usually do myself, but I'm getting old guys and it's just too much for me anymore.

One Sunday Joe and I made a run to Cherry Hill, NJ and got to eat at Red Robin.  The jury is still out on whether we will go back or not.

My cell phone died about three weeks ago.  It's been tough to not have one.  I have to get another soon.

Last week my friend Donna and I had a fun day together going to Target and McDonald's.  We are going to try to do it again next week.

The trees are turning colors -- finally.

I enjoyed telling you about Eastern State Petitionary.  I am going to try to tell you about one historic site each month.  That will be fun.

Although I made two Target runs in October, I know I am making another one soon.  I saw on one of my vlogs that the Dollar Spot has a lot of things that I can use as Christmas gifts.  Perfect!

Halloween last night was quiet.  As usual.  I sat on my front step for awhile and talked to my neighbor Kate.  I almost never see her, so that was fun.  We got about 12 kids and I was so glad that I hadn't gotten more treats than I did.  I was prepared for 40.  Being on a one block long street tucked away in the back makes it hard to give out treats.  No one sees us and unless you live on the street or have relatives there, you don't know we exist.  Twelve was a decent number for us.  My sister got zero.

And so now November is here.  Lots going on in these next two months.  Just in the next few weeks we have Homecoming Sunday, the Veterans Prayer Breakfast, the Men's Breakfast (can you tell my church likes to eat?), a visit to my aunt, Thanksgiving, Pie and Praise, and the Ladies Tea.  I'm going to continue with the house cleaning, getting the wash caught up, decorating and trying to get all my Christmas gifts bought before December.  What a lot of things to fit into this month.  I will take you along with me as much as I can.

Let's welcome November.  A very busy month.
