Looking at my blog this morning I saw that my sister-in-law, Dorrie, has become one of my followers. She is married to my second oldest brother, Michael. Since I have only 6 followers this is a big thing to me. I am so happy she is reading this blog.
Dorrie is a beader. She makes some of the most beautiful things I have ever seen. I used to do beading, but I gave it up because it was so time consuming and so hard on the eyes. So I really appreciate the great work she does.
Dorrie and Mike live in upstate Pennsylvania. The area they live in is so beautiful. I've seen pictures of it, but never have had the chance to visit. I hope to someday.

BACK TO REALITY
After all the excitement of the Dr. Seuss day, the last two days have been rather quiet. Yesterday I decided to try again to straighten up the non-fiction room that I am in charge of. It seems that while I was out no one bothered to shelf-read (putting the books in order) or loosen the crowded shelves, or even put the biography section in order. I never knew that George Washington came alphabetically before Anne Frank. I did a lot. I did a lot more moving books than I should have. I climbed ladders and stretched to get to the top shelves. The more I straightened, the more I found out of place and the more I had to move. I went from 4 books on a book truck to shelve to over 60 books. Then I started feeling some pain in my stomach and spleen. So I had to stop and sit down to process some books for awhile.
The result was that last night I was up until 2 a.m. with pain. It was not fun and I have definitely learned my lesson. I took it very easy today. Not that I didn't work, I just didn't go moving tons of books around.
I get so frustrated because I want the room to look nice. I want people to know someone cares. I want it to be easy to find a book if you know the call number. I have been working on it for four weeks now and I am not even half-way through. I am frustrated because I spent so much time getting it in perfect order before I went out for my surgery and now it is destroyed. But I have to tell myself that it is not worth my health to get the room in order.
Tomorrow is my Fishtown Branch rotation. That is always an easy day. I am looking forward to it. And then on to the weekend and the farm on Saturday. The theme this week is Burger Bash. I know we are getting some ground beef. Can't wait till it's warm enough to grill out in the yard. I'll let you know what we get.

DR. SEUSS
I am Sam. Sam I am. Do you want green eggs and ham?
Let's try this again. I had this post written out. It took me over a half an hour. And then the computer lost the whole thing. So somewhere in cyberspace this post is floating around. Oh well.
Today we had the Dr. Seuss party at the library. It was a lot of fun.
When we got in this morning we decorated the building.
The program started at 3:30 p.m. By 3:00 p.m. we had over 100 people in the building. Miss Peggy took the children downstairs for story time around 3:15 p.m. More and more people kept coming. By 3:30 p.m. there were over 200 people. There were so many kids that Peggy had to move the story time upstairs to the main library because they couldn't all fit in the meeting room. By the time the program started at 4:00 p.m. there were over 300 people there.
One little girl about 8 years old came in. She asked if we were giving out Dr. Seuss books. I told her she would have to wait and see. We were giving out books as door prizes, but I wanted her to be surprised. She said she hoped we would because her little brother loved Dr. Seuss but he was too little to read and she wanted some books to read to him. Aww. That was so sweet. Not everyone who comes into the library is strange.
We had three people from the Philadelphia School of Circus Arts come to perform for us. They were great. They did juggling, unicycle riding, tightrope walking, and one girl was great using the hula hoop. The kids loved them. I did too.
One of our student interns, Roman, dressed up as The Cat in the Hat. The kids loved him. He was really good. A lot of the parents had cameras and took their kids' pictures with him.
Miss Joan, our afterschool leader, Stephanie, another of our student interns, and I ended up cutting and wrapping up the cake for the people to take with them. Even though Peggy, Joan and Stephanie stood at the door and told everyone to take the juice boxes, snacks and cake outside to eat them, I found cake and icing ground into the rug. Rob, our guard, is going to have quite a time cleaning up tomorrow. But the cake was really good!
I took 42 pictures. Some were better than others. I was standing at the circulation desk about 20 feet from the performers, so I think my little camera did a good job of getting the action. I hope you enjoyed coming along for my day of Dr. Seuss. Back to a regular day tomorrow.
