Hello, everyone! Happy 2026 to you. I am going to give this yet another try. I think my posts will be short and that should help me get you all caught up.
I hope things are going well with all of you. We have been having a time here with sickness. On October 22 Joe and I went down the shore to church. Our pastor friend was celebrating 10 years of being at his church. I wasn't feeling all that great, but went anyway. Here are a few pictures from that time.
They gave us a great meal. Everyone brought something. We brought artisan breads because we had to drive so far and didn't want to bring a main dish. There was so much food and everyone went home with left overs.
But the next day I felt even worse. By Wednesday I was coughing like I'd never stop, couldn't breathe, didn't have a voice, and had a fever. Was it the flu? Was it pneumonia? I went to Urgent Care and the only thing they could tell me was that it was viral.
I tried to sit outside on Halloween to hand out candy. And I did for a little while. But then I started choking and had to blow my nose all the time so I went inside.
For the next 12 weeks (yes 12!) I was sick. Very sick. So sick I thought I was going to die. And worst of all no one could give me anything except decongestant and cough medicine because they couldn't figure out what was wrong with me. I even had x-rays but nothing showed up. I truly thought I was going to die.
So the entire fall, my favorite time of year, was spent being sick. It has only been about 10 days since I started feeling entirely well again. You don't appreciate your health until you don't have it.
Thanksgiving was very low key. We spent it alone. I got a turkey breast for free by spending enough money at the supermarket (with the help of my sister). We had that with all the fixings. And I did decorate the house a little bit. Let me show you a few pictures.
As you can see I did make a pumpkin pie from my great-grandmother's recipe. In fact, it was so good that later when I felt better I made two more.
I didn't get much done for Christmas with either gifts or decor. I didn't even get a card sent. But I did get to spend the day with my sister. Still blowing my nose, though.
But I will save that story for another day.
Have a wonderful day everyone and I will hopefully see you soon.
Kathy
Sorry to read that you have been sick dear, my husband has been ill with "something viral" since before Christmas, the coughing is non stop.
ReplyDeleteYour church gathering looks like a good time was had by all, and the food looks delicious.
Enjoyed seeing your decorations, so very pretty, and your pie.....I could eat the entire thing :)
Get well soon,
Hugs,
Jo
Hi Kathy. I'm glad that you are feeling somewhat better. I always enjoy your posts and pictures.
ReplyDeleteOh my! What a time of it you had. I'm so glad you are feeling better at last. Take care of yourself and don't push it too much.
ReplyDeleteOh, Kathy, how sorry I am to hear of your horrid hardship during the holiday season! Hope you will do nothing but continue to get better and return here on a regular basis. I'm amazed that you were able to do as much as you did during this time. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteHi Kathy. You've had quite a time of it with all that sickness during the holidays. I hope that you are on the mend and feeling better soon.
ReplyDeleteWhen you get the chance, (and you may not like to know this stuff! But trust a fellow sufferer of my body, which made too much mucus for years...) try to look up mucus-causing foods list. It won't be easy!!! But I'm 3 years in and can tell you I've felt better than I have in a couple of decades!!! I'm 63, by the way.
ReplyDeleteHubs doesn't cut out the foods I have, and he has a long list of mucus issues, but I don't say anything....He is my dear heart. He's mentioned knowing that I took the long road (cutting out the foods over time (not all at once...don't recommend, it is too tempting to forgo this) and I can tell you my energy sped upwards and my skin improved, as did my hair!
Just a thought. You do YOU. God bless you.
Oh, Kathy! I am so sorry you were SO sick for SO long. It's horrible, isn't it? I was in bed from January last year until April and I was in so much pain I couldn't get a deep breath. Life is just hard sometimes. I am so glad you are feeling better. I am, too, and decided I would post once a week, on Friday, to get back into the blogging world again. Prayers that you continue to feel well. xo Diana
ReplyDeleteI'm one of your silent followers - and I've missed your posts and prayed that you were ok. What a time it sounds like you've had. Glad to hear you are feeling better.
ReplyDeleteOh, Dear Kathy! It's lovely to SEE your voice again, and to see that you've been being kind to yourself and taking life slowly for a bit. I've missed you.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to see that you are getting out and about, and that all the joys of Christmas were met without too much strain on your health. I was happy to see your name pop up on the sidebar, and to know your holidays were so gently enjoyable.
Prayers for us all in this encroaching storm today---we're about on a level course with you---straight over on I-70, and the predictions keep swaying and jumping to another area and another, so we'll just have to wait and see. Be warm and well, and you two hug each other for me---I love your love story and the sweet life you share.
The statement you made about not appreciating health until you don't have it is such a true statement. I got sick one year and was sick for 3 months. I so understand!!! Bless you and I am glad you are mended.
