HOMECOMING SUNDAY

Last Sunday was Homecoming Sunday at the church I attend.  We didn't know how many people to expect but were pleasantly surprised by the number of former members and friends who showed up.  Considering it was put together in less than a month that was a good turnout.

Our friend and cook extraordinary Dorothea was to cook the luncheon that followed the morning service.  Unfortunately she called us a couple of days before and told us that she was in the hospital and would not be able to cook.  So Joe having been a cook in the Marine Corps volunteered to get the food together.  He and I ran around to three different stores looking at food and trying to figure out a menu.  We did and even though it was a lot of work, it turned out wonderful.  We felt badly for Dorothea though.  She wanted to be there so badly and here she was very sick in the hospital.

Here are some pictures from the luncheon.

There were meatballs in tomato sauce, club rolls, baked rigatoni, chicken legs, corn, green beans, and our former pastor's daughter Sandy brought two chicken pot pies that were so good!  There was also a salad bar and a dessert table that I didn't get pictures of.  Everyone brought either a salad or a dessert so that helped and all had a part.

Aren't these dispensers cute?  They held apple cider, ice water and pink lemonade.

The tables were decorated so nicely.  Pastor, his wife Carolyn, Joe and I were there on Saturday setting things up.

Here is Joe's plate.  Doesn't it look good?

Everyone had a wonderful time so I would say our first Homecoming Sunday was a huge success.  There was plenty of food.  In fact, there was so much left over that we were able to send dinners to some elderly people in the neighborhood and we had dinner before Prayer Meeting/Bible Study on Wednesday night.  I think for the last minute Joe did a wonderful job.

Next year we will start working on the plans earlier.

Have a good day everyone!

12 days to Thanksgiving
44 days to Christmas
51 days to New Year's Eve

  1. I just love that photo of the mist in the trees. Just beautiful! Your Homecoming Dinner sounds wonderful. The photos of all the food were making me hungry!! haha. You folks did a great job on such a short notice. It looks like everyone attending enjoyed it. I like that you shared the left over food with others. Such a nice way to help your elderly neighbors. You have a great day, hugs, Edna B.
