AND IT GOES ON

I do love the summer even though this one is not turning out as I planned.

This morning I got up later than I expected, but I hadn't slept well.  I wanted to make some strawberry cupcakes with chocolate icing for the church's Fellowship Time.  I didn't realize it would take so long.  When it was time for me to leave, they had just come out of the oven and were too hot to ice.  So I ended up going to 7-11 and getting some donuts and iced tea in case some people did not want hot coffee or hot tea.  And a few people did take it.  Joe and I have eaten some of the cupcakes and they turned out very good.  There's always the two Bible studies on Tuesday and Wednesday to bring them to.

Last night Joe said he wanted to help me catch up with things.  Our laundry is WAY behind.  We have piles of it.  So he put a load in the washer.  I dozed off and woke to hear *scrape*, *scrape*.  I couldn't figure out what it was.  Then Joe came upstairs from the basement.  The washer had broken.  It won't drain.  And it was full of sheets and pillowcases.  *sigh*  I went down and no luck for me either.  Joe has drained out as much water as he could.  I got online and started looking for a new washer.  Figured I'd get a dryer while I was at it since ours broke about 4 or 5 years ago and we never replaced it.  Joe has been begging for a dryer and I always say we can't afford it.  So...

The main problem we have with getting a washer and dryer is that our doorway to the basement is only 23 1/2 inches wide (59.69 cm) and the distance between the walls is 24 inches (61 cm).  Most appliances are wider or deeper or taller than that.  We can get only small apartment sized portable appliances.  There is one store in our neighborhood that sells them so we are going there tomorrow.  I figure it will be about $800 for the two of them.  But this place will also remove the old ones.  That's worth it.

Joe says bad things come in threes and so this is the end of it.  I sure hope so.

I plan to call the garage first thing in the morning to see what is going on with our car.  I looked up on google what the prices are for replacing the various things I knew needed replacing and/or fixing.  It came to about $2,000 so maybe we will be getting our car back.  I sure hope so.  I don't need car payments.  Our car has been paid for for awhile now.  Besides, I like my car.

I have so much work to do tomorrow to get ready to have someone remove a washer and dryer and put new ones in.  And I MUST cut the grass.  It's terrible.  And my library material is overdue.  And I have to go food shopping for sure.  So much to do!

I got only two hours of sleep last night so I hope I do better tonight.  I think I will.

  1. Our washer did that once and it was the safety latch under the lid. It had broken. Super easy fix. Might want to check it out before buying a new one!

    1. Thanks for the advice. Joe checked it and that wasn't it. The motor runs and all but the drum won't spin and empty the water.

  2. It does seem that troubles come in 3's, so hoping this is definitely the last of yours for a bit. Not being able to sleep makes the day a lot harder. Maybe you can get most of the work done in the morning time, and have a nap in the afternoon. Whatever comes, I pray you have a blessed day.

    1. Thank you so much! Ever since my thyroid issues when I get to a certain point my body just shuts down and I have to sleep. I got a good night's sleep last night so hopefully that shut down time will be later rather than sooner today.

  3. I can understand about the size thing. Our basement door is narrow as well. Hopefully whether it can be fixed or you get a new one,it'll all work out. Same with the car.
    Enjoy your day!

    1. We found a washer and dryer which we financed. Can't afford to pay up front. They will be delivered on Friday morning.

  5. Ooh dear. When I worked at the veterinarians, we had a full sized stackable washer and dryer, simple because we didn't have room for a side-by-side, but they make them.
Hope they give you some good news about your car, you could use it :)

    1. Stackables are too big -- even apartment sized. I tried to get one today. Just an inch too wide. *sigh* No news on the car front.

  6. That three thing? Not so much unless you batch them in groups of three. 😏 I hope that the new washer and dryer will make life easier for you. Those things come in all sizes these days. Praying for all these concerns to work out. Get thee some rest...

    1. Too much to do to rest! Got a washer and dryer that hopefully break down small enough to get through the door.

  7. Sorry things are whacky now but will be fixed soon. Never enough time to get it all done. Laundry nearly everyday here even with 3 people. A bit less with not as many sweatshirts now that summer is here. Take care.

    1. Laundry every day here too. That's why getting a washer is so important!

  8. Have you ever tried Lavender Oil? I rub the oil on my forearms right before I got to sleep. Next thing I know. it's morning. When I don't use it, I have trouble getting or staying asleep.

    1. I like lavender but it gives me headaches. I didn't get enough sleep because there was too much to do before church the next morning.

  9. Your life has been full of stress for awhile now. No wonder you have trouble sleeping! I like Christine's idea to use the lavender oil. That and maybe some sleepy-time tea. Prayer and deep breathing too. I hope your Joe is right about trouble coming in threes.

  10. You have been having a rough summer in recent weeks, Kathy, and I hope that you get the new appliances and that your car is repaired sooner rather than later.

  11. Kathy, I just hate that you are going thru so much at once. I hope you can get a good deal on a washer/dryer set. I want to get a new washer while they are still make them with agitators. I do not like the washing action of those newer styles. Blessings to you and Joe, xoxo, Susie

    1. I have had a washer without an agitator for years and love it. The new one does have an agitator though. We didn't get a great deal on the washer and dryer, but we didn't get taken either.
