A SAD WEEKEND

Image result for to everything there is a season

It has been a sad weekend in our family.  My sister Elaine had to say goodbye to her best friend, her Cocker Spaniel, Cody.  They have been inseparable for over 12 years.  Poor Cody was very sick and she knew it was time and the right thing to do.  That doesn't stop the pain for her or the sadness in the rest of the family.  Please say a prayer for her if you think of it.

There has been no call from the garage/body shop about our car so that is not a good sign.  I am so sure that the car is a total loss that I have begun looking online at the prices of used cars to replace it.

I finally uploaded some photos of the damage for my insurance company so I can share them with you.  The wetness on the sidewalk is from the radiator.

The blue book value of our car is around $3,000.  I think there is more than $3,000 worth of damage.  *sigh*  If I could do without a car, I would.  But it's just not possible with our disabilities.

Yesterday I called the ShopRite store and talked to the manager.  I told him what had happened.  He was NOT happy.  I gave him the time Joe was in there and he was going to look at the records and see who had a large void around that time.  I hope I didn't make the cashier lose her job, but I don't want her doing that to someone else either.  I said that to the manager too.  I told him that I was considering going to another store to shop and he said he would understand if I did that but he hoped I would give them a chance to make it right.  We'll see.  If I had done something like that at the library when I was working, you'd better believe I would have been written up.

I called out for Chinese food for dinner tonight.  We had steamed dumplings and chicken and broccoli over white rice.  Very good and very filling.  I'm stuffed.

Now I have to get off of here and get the bulletins printed for church tomorrow. It's also my turn to bring the treat for Fellowship Time so I'm going to bake something.  I'm thinking about a dump cake.  Nice and easy.

I hope you all have a great evening.

Kathy

  1. So very sorry to read that sweet Cody is gone. It's always such a heart wrenching decision to make, letting go of our fur babies. I shall remember your sister in my prayers, and RIP sweet boy.
Good luck with your car replacement, I have a feeling too, it will come to that.
    Hugs,
    ~Jo

  2. I'm glad you spoke to the manager. The person who checked out Joe needs to learn some people skills!
God bless you as you make a car decision. That's a big one!

    1. I don't want anyone to lose their job, but you are right she needs some people skills! I'm sure I'll find something to drive. My best friends own a used car lot. I think they will help me out.

  3. Kathy, I am sorry to hear about your sister's dog. It's better to not let them suffer though. I hope the manager speaks to the checkout lady , but I hope she doesn't lose her job. I am almost sure Joe had all that store stuff on his mind and was distracted. I do understand about your car. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

    1. Joe did have the store stuff on his mind and was distracted. He might not have hit the gas instead of the brake otherwise. He's a very careful driver.

    1. Yes, she held out as long as she could but when he was so bad the day before, she knew it was time.

  5. Sorry to read about your sister's dog. That is the worst part about having pets...the day we must say goodbye. I know that your sister has 12 good years of memories and I hope that she will be comforted by them.

So glad that you were proacrive and called the store manager. Hopefully, everything will get righted around as it should be. The cashier should not have behaved that way and she deserves to be reprimanded or fired.

May everything come around with the car as well...The Lord knows what you need.

    2. It's only God getting me through these days. I hope the cashier doesn't lose her job either, but I don't want her treating anyone else that way. I felt I had to call the manager.

  6. So very sorry to hear about Cody...The decision is never easy. I will be praying for her. I agree you did right to call the manager. What she did was not right. While I don't want to see anyone lose their job, that is not the way to treat anyone, let alone a customer. Hopefully it will be a wake-up call for her. Prayers for your new car search.

    1. Thanks, De hie. You know I never want to see anyone lose their job but what if she did this to someone else? If she didn't know how to do it, she could have. Walled the front end manager over for help.

  7. A pet is a member of a family, and it is so hard to lose them. You certainly should have called the store manager and hopefully he will make this right so that no one else has to have that experience. Praying about your car, and if a total, that you can get it repaired and soon. If not, that you can find one to replace it that will be good for you. Today is a new day....let's pray for a good one.

  8. I feel awful for your sister. I know how hard it is to lose a beloved pet--but it is even harder to watch them suffer when you know there is no chance they will get well.

That is a lot of damage to your car and I bet it is over $3,000 worth of damage. Those bumpers are expensive.

Good for you for calling the manager of the store. I do think that cashier should be chastised, or written up, for not taking an item off the tally. That is just crazy and people do it all the time.

Hope you have a wonderful, blessed Sunday, Kathy! xo Diana

  9. You are such a caring person!
    What a day you had.
Between your sister and the accident and talking to the store manager, you showed a lot concern for everyone!
God is using you to help the cashier. Showing her how to serve others. I believe it's a blessing for her!
Hugs to Joe and Elaine, and YOU!

  10. I am sorry for Elaine. It is so very hard to lose a pet. My friend just lost her bird that she has had for 18 years. Now that Peachy is gone, it is a real life changer. Peachy had free range of the house and when I would call on the phone, Peachy always had to talk. She was so so cute!

I hope and pray that everything works out for you. There are no accidents with God. He has a plan, but of course, you know that.

  12. So sorry for your sisters loss. I'm sure she is heartbroken :(
That car does look rough. Hopefully you'll find out something soon

  13. Sorry to read about your sister's loss of her beloved pet. And kudos to you for going back to that supermarket and letting the manager know what happened. Possibly, if Joe had not been stressed out, the accident might not have happened. These are only "maybes" but life is full of these.

  14. Sorry that your car is damaged. I guess I didn't read the last post that was written about it. Car and laundry appliances and your sister's dog...all together....oh so sorry and praying for you and Joe and your sister. God bless you so much in these days ahead!
