A ROCKWELL WEDNESDAY -- LANDS OF ENCHANTMENT (1923)

I have found my Norman Rockwell calendars and have decided to revive my Rockwell Wednesdays.  This painting is titled "Lands of Enchantment" and being the book lover I am, is one of my favorites.

Rockwell had deep respect for the golden age of illustration when beautiful editions of Dante, Shakespeare, and Walter Scott were popular.  However, popular demand was changing, and readers were looking for humor and reader identification.  In this illustration, which appeared on the Post cover on November 10, 1923, Rockwell pays tribute to authors of the golden age with precise details in the castle, and he depicts modern illustration demands with the Walter Mitty reader.

  3. I have always loved Norman Rockwell. I have a book that belonged to my mother that has all of his works in it. He was amazing at capturing a 'feel' in each of his paintings. xo Diana

  5. Rockwell had a gift for capturing life's moments. I don't think any one of us can't identify a piece of ourselves in his paintings. This is beautiful.

  6. Hi Kathy! Oh, don't you just love the paintings of Norman? His museum is not far from where I live and it's just wonderful. In his older years and second marriage, I think, he moved to Stockbridge, Massachusetts and there he made the little town of Stockbridge famouse. Most of the folks in his work were the actual folks who lived there. We love that area and go as often as we can. That's where we spent our anniversary! Thanks for popping in to see me and that's your school lesson for today! :)
    Be a sweetie,
