THE MONDAY BEFORE THANKSGIVING

Only two more days until Thanksgiving and I am so not ready.  I wanted to do so many things but everything is taking so long to do.  I have huge jobs in front of me.  But I keep plugging away.

It has been two days now without a fever so I think I am finally over whatever it was I had.  That was tough to shake.  Joe, however, is sicker.  If he is not better tomorrow, I am calling the doctor.

It has been cold and windy today.  I didn't even bother picking up the yard very much because things were just blowing all over the place.  When I went to feed the outside cats I did pick up a few things, but hopefully the wind will stop and I can really straighten up tomorrow.

Since it was so cold I decided to bake.  Our kitchen is an add on and so it is very cold in the winter.  Sometimes so cold we can't eat dinner out there.  So running the stove is a good thing.  I made peanut butter cookies this morning.

Cookies don't last long around here, so I don't expect them to be around too long.

This evening I made a rustic apple tart.  I had two apples that were on the verge of going bad.  I decided to make this so that I could salvage them.

I did a lot of cleaning today, but still so much more to go.  I did make a big dent, though, so I'm happy about that.

But now I have to run.  I still have to type up my lesson for tomorrow.  Another busy day ahead.  I'll leave you with this poem I found.  It has a lot of truth to it.

  1. How very true that poem is! We sometimes don't realize exactly how good God is to us. Glad to hear the 'bug' has moved on. Yum...cookies!

  2. There is much truth in the poem. So glad your fever is gone and you are better. Hopefully your hubby will be feeling better too. Pace yourself so you don't relapse and just recite the poem...the holiday isn't about dust on the furniture and sticks in the yard. It's about family and love and all that we have to be thankful for.

  6. Kathy, You saying the kitchen gets cold...took me back in time. My MIL used to use her oven to warm up the kitchen . That was a wonderful kitchen range..she used it for years and so did I. When we moved here, I bought a new range...but wish I had kept that old one. I sure hope Joe gets better soon. Blessings to you both for a beautiful Thanksgiving. xoxo, Susie

    1. I sometimes think those old stoves were better than what we have today. They were real workhorses. Thanks for your good wishes. Happy Thanksgiving to you too.

  7. Hope you got lots done today, Kathy. I also hope that Joe is feeling better and happy that you are over whatever it was that you had. Crazy.
Is there no way to get a heat vent into your kitchen?...or even a small wall heater in there? Too bad it gets so cold in there in the winter.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, Kathy. xo Diana

  8. My dad was tired of hearing his daughters fuss and fight about having to do the dishes. One day he brought home a wooden plaque with that very poem on it.....no kidding!! It hung in the kitchen until we were grown :)
    Happy Thanksgiving, Kathy!

  9. Thanks for sharing that poem. We should all be grateful for what we have indeed! I'm surprised there was no insulation in the add on kitchen. I'd think there would be a way to insulate it without too much trouble. Oh well, at least it's inside. Glad u are all ok.
