A SET-BACK AND ANOTHER RECOVERY

Can you believe Thanksgiving is next week?  I can't.  It just doesn't seem possible.  And it's the middle of November already.  How did that happen?

Yesterday morning was a series of mishaps.  It began with me waking up at 3:30 a.m. and not being able to get back to sleep.  After an hour of tossing and turning I got up and decided to make some lemon poppy seed bread for breakfast.  I mixed everything up, read all the directions, and put it in the oven for an hour.  The smell of the baking bread filled the house and it was just wonderful.  When the bell rang, I went to the kitchen and took it out.  I put the pan on a rack to cool for 10 minutes just as the directions said.  Then I went to take it out of the pan and let it cool some more.

I turned the pan over onto the cooling rack and it didn't come out.  I shook it a little bit and nothing.  So I got a dinner knife and ran it around the sides of the pan to loosen it.  I figured since I was using a non-stick pan AND I had greased it that I had just missed a place or two.  I tried again and the whole loaf fell out of the pan and broke into bits.  I just stood there looking at the pieces and watching the steam rise from what was left of the hot loaf.  (Joe and I ended up eating the pieces and it was very good.)

So I decided to cook the last egg for breakfast to have with a piece of the bread.  I cracked it into the frying pan and found out it was frozen!  O...K...  I decided to cook it anyway and figured I'd add some lactose free cheese to it.

I had spilled something on the stove the night before and never wiped it up.  So as the egg is cooking I grab a paper towel and wipe up the spill.  And the towel catches on fire!  I drop it, grab the spatula and beat the fire out.  Then I put it in the sink in a bowl of water.  While all of this is happening, the cheese burns.  *sigh*

After I ate my burned egg and broken bread I go to print out the handouts for my Bible study class.  I can't start the printer because it needs yellow ink.  After quite a difficult time I get that changed.  Then I get one sheet printed out and it runs out of black ink.  I have to cancel everything, change that cartridge and start over.

Are you laughing yet?

I pick up Debbie and we go to Bible study.  Everything goes great and we have a really good lesson on the church at Smyrna from the book of Revelation.  None of us are feeling 100% so I do the closing prayer instead of all of us taking turns.  As I lay my head on my folded hands I feel that I'm burning up.  Yep, my fever is back.  And I'm feeling lousy.

But...  I have to go food shopping because we are totally out of a lot of things.  Debbie kindly offered to go with me and help because I was feeling so badly.

First, though, I'm starving so we go to East Coast Wings and Grill for lunch.  Debbie got a salad and I got a Cowboy Burger and tortilla chips with salsa.  The burger had bacon, french fried onions and barbecue sauce and was so good!  I ate only half of it (if that) and brought the rest home.  The food at that place is always so delicious.

Then we went to Shop Rite.  I have been so sick that I didn't even realize that a lot of Thanksgiving things would be on sale this week.  So I got quite a few things that weren't on my list.  We love the Stove Top stuffing with cranberries so I got that.  I also got a couple cans of jellied cranberry sauce (it's not real cranberry sauce if it isn't in the shape of a can -- old family saying), and other things.  Joe was even sicker so I got him some ginger ale to settle his stomach.  Debbie was so helpful and I couldn't have done it without her.  Thanks, Debbie!

I did splurge on one thing at Shop Rite -- an old world Santa.  It was $25 marked down to $10 and I couldn't resist.  Look how beautiful he is.  He's about 18 inches (46 cm) tall.  I am thinking of putting him in the front window but I'm not sure because I don't want him to fade.  He might just sit on the bottom step.

They had different styles, but I liked this one with the lantern.

Isn't his little sack adorable?  You can't see it, but it has jingle bells on it too.

Even little fur boots and an embroidered coat.  He is just so adorable.

When I got home I was too sick to even take the food inside so it just stayed in the car and I laid down on the sofa and went right out.  I woke up several hours later and unloaded the car and put things away.  My fever was up to 101* and I was too sick to even eat dinner, just took my medicine and went to bed.

This morning I am feeling so much better.  Back to myself -- almost.  I'm glad because I have a retirement party to go to this afternoon and I really want to go.  Wil and I used to work together at the library.  Not only that, we went to high school together and were in library club together.  She was a year ahead of me but because I was in the club with her my picture is in her yearbook.  Small world.  Friday is her last day and the staff of her branch is giving her a surprise party today.  It will be so great to see her again and wish her well.

So I am going to go and get myself ready.  After I get home from the party I have to get myself ready for Bible study tonight.  And I still have to go get Wil a card and flowers.  Hope you all have a great day.  And hope I don't get sick again!

Kathy

  1. My husband and I have been fighting a version of this illness for over two weeks! We feel better for a day, then relapse; better, then relapse. And why does it seem that on the days you feel worse, there's more that has to be done! We think it's mostly over now, and I hope you and Joe are both 100% soon. (Love your new Santa.)

I am so sorry you got sick again though. Wow! You have really had a time of it. I hope the sleep got rid of the rest of it for you and it will be all uphill from her on out. And, I can't believe that Joe is still sick, too.
Love your little Santa, Kathy. He is ever so cute. His lantern just adds to his charm.

    1. It wasn't funny at the time, but afterwards it was. I think my sickness is just about gone now. If I could only get rid of the fever I would be fine. I thought the lantern was cute too. Much cuter than a sled or a tree.
