THIS AND THAT AND ANOTHER HOUSEKEEPING TIP

Oh how I am enjoying the summer.  My first summer of retirement is turning out to be just wonderful.  Since it turned to August, the high heat and humidity have gone and the weather is just beautiful.  Highs in the 80s.  Lows in the 70s.  And low humidity.  Sunny skies during the day and rain in the evenings.

The deep blue of the summer sky
Holds secret wishes.  So do I.
My back feels the heat of the high hung sun.
The juice of melons on my tongue.
Sweet summer I wish you could stay
And never ever go away.

Well, it's not the best poem I've ever written, but it says what I want it to.

Yesterday I had so much energy and got a lot done.  Today not so much.  But that's how it goes.  I try to do as much as I can on my good days.

Joe and I have been cleaning out the fridge.  Doesn't everyone have unknown science experiments lurking in the dark back corners?  We are cleaning one shelf or drawer a day which doesn't take very long and in a week it will be all finished.  Then I will be able to keep it up once a month and nothing will be lost in the dark.  I also was able to rearrange things in the door and now everything is so organized.  It makes me happy.  Doesn't take much does it?

My big tip, though, is something I started with my dishes.  Every morning I empty the dishwasher and put everything away.  Then all day as I use things they go into the dishwasher and not the sink.  In the evening after dinner everything gets washed.  It is keeping the sink from getting all piled up with dishes as it sometimes has.  Another organizational thing that is working for me.  It has taken me awhile but I think I am finally getting myself organized.

Here are a few pictures for you from this week.

My African violet is blooming.  It hasn't bloomed in almost a year.  And there is another bud which has just opened today.  It is so big and healthy.  I don't know what I'm doing, but obviously it's the right thing.

The sunset last night.  So pretty.  Much prettier in person than on the screen.

Look at this picture from tonight.  This is facing east as the sun is setting in the west.  It was at an angle that shone on the clouds.  It was magnificent!
And that's it for tonight.  Church tomorrow so I had better get the bulletins printed.  I'll be talking to you soon.

Kathy

  1. I like the idea of putting things directly in the dishwasher. Glad it's working for you & you are getting more done. That always feels good.
    Enjoy your day!

    1. I think it's not even getting more things done, but making what I do easier for me. You know I have never been an organized person, but I'm trying. Really trying.

  2. So glad to hear you're enjoying your summer. I like your poem too. it's always good to learn an organizational habit. I'm not too good at loading my dirty dishes into the dishwasher through the day. I need to do what you're doing too. Thanks for popping in to see me.
    Be a sweetie,

    1. Putting dishes in the dishwasher all day makes things so much easier. At least for me. I am not very organized at all but I can see my life would be better if I were. So I am trying. So far, so good.

Thanks for liking my poem. I used to write a lot of poetry. Now not so much.
