HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JOE!

Today was my husband Joe's birthday.  I think I've been looking forward to it more than he has.  I love spoiling him on his birthday.

I didn't know what to get him, so I did one of my favorite things -- a grab bag.  I got a gift bag and filled it with little things:  a bag of almonds, bath gel, his favorite Axe shave cream, a sticky roller to get all the white cat hair off of his black trousers, a new covered drinking cup in the shape of a soda bottle and a Hershey bar.  I stuck his birthday card in there too.  He loved it.

He said he wanted French toast for breakfast, so that's what I made for him.

I am still in a great deal of pain from helping to clean the church on Thursday.  So it was a rather low key day.  Joe wanted to go to the cemetery to put flowers on his mother's and twin brother's graves.  So we made sure we did that.  I know it's hard for Joe to have his birthday without his twin John.

The cemetery is so pretty and peaceful.  I love taking pictures there.  Sometime I want to go just to take pictures.

I always like looking at this tree root.
Next we headed to lunch at the Super China Buffet.  We met up with Walt and Carole there.  We got there first which is a big change because they are usually waiting for us!  We had a wonderful meal.  In fact, we ate so much that we didn't even eat dinner.  I got my sushi so you know I was a happy camper!  We talked and ate and had a good time.

Walt had a doctor's appointment so they took off one way and we went the other to go to the bank and deposit a check.  Then it was home.  We were both tired.

When we got home, we laid down and were talking but we both fell asleep.  I slept for three hours and when I woke up I felt much better although I'm still in quite a bit of pain.  This arthritis is terrible and don't let anyone tell you it isn't.  I'm so glad I retired because I don't think I could continue working at this point.

I got up but Joe continued sleeping.  So I decided to make him a cake.  Well, I wanted to make him a dessert of any kind but when I went looking in the pantry I found a mix I had bought that makes a 6 inch round cake.  I mixed it up, baked it, iced it and called him when it was ready.  It was so cute and tasted so good.

Although it had been a beautiful sunny day up around 80* by sunset it had clouded over.  I hope this doesn't mean a rainy weekend.  I have things I want to do.

Joe just told me that he had a "perfect day."  And that's what really counts, isn't it?  It is in my opinion.

Have a good night, everyone!

Kathy

  1. Happy Birthday to your sweet Joe! You are pretty amazing to turn out such a great little cake while he was sleeping! Now that you're retired, do you marvel at all the hats you wore while you were working? As Summer says, " Work is so time consuming!" We stay busy all.the.time. And there is always more to do! I have remind myself to go step by step!

    1. I don't know if I am going slower as I get older or if the time is going faster. There is always something to do. Work does seem to get in the way of life.

  2. Happy birthday,Joe! What a wonderful wife you are! Making him a favorite breakfast & baking a cake (looks delicious!). I love cooking surprise dinners for Russ. I think outside the box, throwing things together...Last night we had leftover (mildly) spicy sausage diced up in scrambled eggs. Pretty good! I know arthritis doesn't go away, but I hope you have a better weekend. woof

    1. Thanks. I really overdid it on Thursday even though I didn't think I did. I'm still paying for it. Pain killers help somewhat but I am suffering. Hopefully the pain will ease up soon. This damp weather does not help at all!

    1. I'm hoping to find an orthopedist to help me with all this pain I'm experiencing. Soon.

Joe was very happy except at the cemetery where he said he asked God why He took John and left him. He always sees John as having so many more good attributes than he has. And then he heard God tell him that he was there because he was being used in God's work. When people look at him, they don't see a charismatic person, they see someone God is using. That's a great answer.

  6. Happpy Birthday to Joe. Sounds like it was a perfect day. Love that cute cake you whipped up. I always say, I do not know how I survived certain jobs I held in the past, nor how I got anything done outside of work! My time management skills were better then, than now! I guess. Being younger helps, too, having much more energy.

    1. I think with me it's that I was younger. I don't think I've ever had good time management skills even though I've taken tons of classes on it.
