THE FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT AND THE CHRISTMAS CAFE

Can you believe it's only 5 days until Christmas?  I can't.  It is coming so quickly.  I took tomorrow off from work so that I can get things done around here.  If I don't do it tomorrow, it won't get done.

Jim and Carol were supposed to light the Advent Candles this morning, but Jim got sick.  So Dorothea stepped in to help out.

We had a guest speaker today.  One of our new elders, Dr. Evans, gave the message.  Afterwards we were talking and it turns out that he and I know a lot of the same people going way back to when I was a pre-teen.  It really is such a small world.  His wife was there too and she was such a sweetie.

Tonight we had our annual Christmas Cafe at church.  For two years Joe hasn't been able to go, but he pulled himself together and got there tonight.

Bud wasn't able to get any other musicians so he did most of the music by himself.

He asked me to help him out so I played my recorder with him on "Come Thou Long Expected Jesus."  I haven't played in years and was a little (a lot?) rusty.  I practiced a lot this afternoon and think I did OK.  Not great, but OK.  I didn't know that Joe was taking pictures of me.

Carol and Joe sang a duet of "Joy to the World".  It was wonderful.  I couldn't get a decent picture of them, though.

It was a really wonderful night.  Even if I did burn the brownies I made to bring over.  At least I had cake and GORP (raisins, peanuts and M&Ms) with me.

  1. we had a lovely church service today. I haven't got the time to share it. I've been busy most of the afternoon printing out photos. Glad I'm nearly done. Glad you had a chance to play your recorder for others to hear. I'm sure it went well. Merry Christmas!

  3. Kathy, 11 days Captain !!! There's a commercial that runs in our area in summer...it's kids counting off days till they can go to some amusement park. LOL..That's how they count. So glad you are at least still getting to have your church services. Hopefully one day a new pastor will come and other will join you there. Blessings for a great week and a Merry Christmas. xoxo,Susie
