THE RUNAWAY

Last night Pumpkin was being very bad.  He kept attacking Snowy and Joe was getting upset about it.  He said to put him outside.  The idea was that it was cold out and he would see that to have a nice warm home he had to behave.  I had him in my arms, stepped outside, not meaning to let go of him, and he jumped out of my arms and ran off into the dark of night.  I called him, but he doesn't know his name yet.   I looked all over and no luck.

I was heartbroken. He is a bad one, but I don't want him living  outside in the cold.  I put it up on facebook and within minutes the young man a couple of doors away was at my front door asking if he could look for Pumpkin.  He had this huge flashlight and went all over the yard with no luck.  Then he looked on the street and found him under a car.  But that little stinker took off and ran down the alleyway, into the yard and then into the yard behind me.  We tried and tried to get him and he wouldn't come.  Finally my  neighbor went to the next street over, shined the flashlight into the neighbor's yard, scared Pumpkin who ran out and into my waiting arms.

We were happy to get him back, but it really is not working out with him and Snowy.  Snowy is an old cat and is not adjusting well to  having a kitten around.  We are trying to find him a new home.  Even though I love him, I cannot see us traveling around for a week and leaving the two of them alone together.  As it is, when we both go out we cage Pumpkin who doesn't seem to mind it at all.  In fact, he will go sleep in his cage when he is tired.

A big change has taken place in my life too.  I have decided to change the date of my retirement to December 31st.  There are a lot of reasons why this makes more sense.  The main one is that the pension board closes for Christmas and New Year's and my appointment would be pushed back for two weeks.  By staying I get two more paychecks and have the same appointment that I would have if I were leaving the beginning of the month.  And  another month of employment gives me a bigger pension too.  Not much, but hey, anything helps.  So I figure that I will start the new year with a new life.  This just feels so much better to me.  And it's still not very far away.

I am working with the Elders at church to put together all the  Christmas programs and extras of the season.  We are trying so  hard to keep things running and together.  I will be taking pictures and sharing as things go along.  And it appears that Joe will be speaking again this Sunday.

Yesterday's movie was one I had seen before called "Annie Claus Is Coming to Town" (2014).  About 10 minutes into it I remembered watching it last year.  I hadn't seen the whole thing, though.  It was cute.

Today I saw one I recorded from ABCFamily called "Miss Congeniality"  (2000).  Now that one I remembered.  One summer my sister and I decided to rent a movie.  That was a feat in itself because we don't usually like the same type of movie.  This one we agreed on and it turned out we both really liked it.  I had forgotten a lot of it and had forgotten how good it was.  I enjoyed watching it again.

So that's what's  going on with me.  It's either feast or famine in  my world.

I hope you all have a good evening.

Kathy

  1. Well, that is a surprise but makes sense, Kathy. It is always nice to have that extra bit of cash this time of year, too. I hope it is not too stressful on you and I know this time of year the days will fly by-they always do.

I am so sorry about Pumpkin. Maybe put him up on FB and see if someone in your neighborhood wants him. That way you would know he was taken care of and could see him once in a while, too.

I loved that Sandra Bullock movie. She is a good actress and funny.

Hope you have a good night- I am so tired that I am falling asleep sitting up. xo Diana

    1. It all has to do with the timing of Joe's pension. Since it takes three months for mine to start, without Joe's extra money we couldn't pay our utilities or buy food. Little things like that. It also gives me time to do all the end of the year things and show someone else how to do it.

I think NanaDiana has a great idea.
I love the way you think. Two more paychecks and a fresh start to the new year.

    1. Yeah, the decision was economic but also I just didn't feel right about leaving when I had planned to. This just makes more sense.

I put Pumpkin up on facebook but so far no one can take him.

  4. I'm really glad you found Pumpkin. I've got a feeling if you hadn't you would've beat yourself up over it. Hopefully you can find her a forever home soon.

I'm glad your more at peace with your new retirement date. Sometimes "inner peace" is the biggest blessing ever.

I've seen Miss Congeniality and it's a cute movie. Haven't watched it in a long time though. It's one of those you can watch over and over and never really tire of.

Hope your having a good week friend!

    1. Oh, Angie, you know me so well. I was crying and beating myself up for sure while he was missing. He needs a forever home. I wish it could be with me, but it just isn't working out that way.

You are so right about that inner peace. I feel much better doing it this way.

  5. I'm happy that your little Pumpkin came home, there is nothing more frightening than knowing a pet is out on the loose, especially a baby one.
Wishing you a happy retirement in the coming month, I 'spect your days will be filled with much enjoyment, sometimes I wonder how I found the time to work....lol

    1. I'm with you, Jo. I have so much to do at home that I think I will be busier than if I were working.

  6. The kitty saga continues! Hope you can find a good home for him. Megan and I watched Sound of Music with Carrie Underwood as Maria over the weekend. It's a video of the play that was made with her in 2013. We really liked it. We've always liked the Sound of Music with Julie Andrews....my favorite.
Glad you got the retirement kinks out and a new year for your retirement...fun! Glad you are able to do it. I think about it but it's not going to happen for a couple years at least.....probably nothing for 5 years. I did turn 60 this year so the thought process is there. Will work for awhile til our house is paid off then figure it all out! Glad you are working on Christmas programs at church. Take care and God bless.

    1. I figured when I turned 62 was a good time to retire. I've been looking forward to this for two years. Time flies and your time will come quicker than you think.

    1. It just made more sense to me and I feel better about it. I was trying to explain things to my co-workers about end of the year reports and they were looking at me blankly. This way I can show them. And I will be there to celebrate the holidays with them too.
