HAVING A DAY OFF

Yesterday was Veteran's Day and I had the day off from work. First off I want to thank all of our servicemen, past and present, for their service to our country.  I think it is one of the hardest things a person ever does.  In the early 1980s I worked for the Department of the Navy and then for the Department of Defense.  It was interesting, but sometimes nerve wracking.  Everything you do has to be perfect because people's lives depend on it.

I come from a military family dating way back.  Doing some genealogy research I found a record from one of my ancestors being in a regiment from Delaware in the Revolutionary War.   My 3 times great-grandfather was killed in the Civil War.  My grandfather was in World War I.  Uncles and cousins in World War II.  My father-in-law in Viet Nam 3 times.  My father, father-in-law and husband were in the Marine Corps.  My brothers were in the Army, Navy and Coast Guard.  So I have great respect for all those servicemen and servicewomen out there.

I had so much planned for yesterday and nothing got done.  Again.

I went to the GYN doctor in the morning for my annual check up and had the pleasant surprise that my insurance covered the entire thing.  I didn't have to pay anything at all.  Yes!  Then I headed to the hospital and got my foot x-rayed.  Finally.  It turns out that my doctor's office DID mess up and not the hospital (although the man at the front desk could have been nicer and explained things a little better).  Apparently my foot is sprained and not broken.  That is good news -- I guess.

When I got home I was so tired that I just went to sleep and slept about 3 hours.  So no cleaning got done again.  I MUST get things done around here.  It looks horrible and I'm ashamed for anyone to come in.  I know it's my thyroid making me so tired.

Even the doctor today said that and told me it's also the cause of my dry and peeling skin, itchy arms, legs and feet, running to the bathroom, and eating like crazy.  I've gained 20 lbs. since last year.  She is the third doctor who has advised me to quit my job, stay home and get my dosage regulated.  Each one tells me it is important for me to nap in the afternoon and to get enough rest.  So even though I will miss working, I know I am doing the right thing for my health.

I got a few cute pictures of Snowy and Pumpkin today.  Pumpkin is so good -- when he is asleep.  And ONLY when he is asleep.  He is into eveything, bites us like crazy and is so bad.  I hope he grows out of the biting and climbing up my back.

My little Pumpkin is growing up.

One of the rare times when they are together and not fighting.

My sweet Snowy.  She is starting to fight back fiercely when attacked by the little one.  She doesn't like her eyes scratched or her ears bitten.  Who would?

Last night Joe and I watched the movie "Inside Out".  It was really cute.  If you get the chance, you definitely should see it.

As for my Christmas movies, I've seen "Love At The Thanksgiving Day Parade" (2012) (which I really enjoyed a lot) on Tuesday.

I watched "Christmas at Cartwright's" (2014) on Wednesday.  I really liked that one too.

Today it's "Christmas Dance" (2012).  It's also good, but I'm not as taken with it as the other two.

Another day at work today.  I hope it is not as bad as Tuesday was.  Boss was off and we had a substitute librarian.  The kids were bad and I was shutting down their computers on them.  Two of my employees are not speaking to each other.  It was pouring rain.  Yes, a really good day.  I'm going to think positive that today will be better.  At least my desk is looking better.  If only I had taken the time to clean it off months ago.

It's my late day, so I am going to try to get some more sleep.  Hope you all have a great day.

  1. I guess a sprain is better than other things it could be. Glad (at least) that you got an answer. I think a lot of things will get done once you retire. You'll be able to rest in between activities. That should help a bit. My father was in the Navy. I too appreciate their service and I'm happy to see so many businesses & restaurants honoring them with specials,
    Have a sunny day!

  3. You really do have a lot of service people in your family. God bless all of them, past, present and future ones!
I am sorry that work has been so rough lately. Just about 3 more weeks and you will be free. I do hope that your health turns around once you have time to concentrate on your health a bit more.
Hope you have a really good day, Kathy! xo Diana

  5. Your kittens are cute and hopefully pumpkin will behave himself. Megan had a ton of books today to check in because of the closure for the holiday yesterday. It's chilly, windy and rain coming. Snowing in mountains which we really need. It will be good for you to stay home and get caught up on your sleeping and eating right and getting some work done around the house. I had tried to do that yesterday for a bit but wasn't home long enough to do much since I took the day off to enjoy free food for veterans. But that's for another blog post! Hugs and give Joe a hug for me...veteran to veteran. God bless and hang in there for less than a month then it's retirement!!!! :0}
