MEET PUMPKIN!

Three days ago as I was feeding the outside cats I heard a loud meow.  I looked and here was a little kitten walking around my rosebushes.  He was very little.  I would estimate about 5 or 6 weeks old.  And so cute!  Right away I knew I wanted to take him in and try to save him.  He was too little to spend the winter outside.  I was afraid he would freeze to death.  But I couldn't catch him.

We have a hole where the groundhog used to live.  I was afraid he would fall down it, so I took the lid off of one of the trash cans and put it over the hole.

Yesterday morning I went out to feed the cats and there was this little kitten again crawling out of the hole from under the lid.  It must have been warm and safe in the hole.  I scooped him up and ran him into the house while he cried and tried to scratch me.

He is scared, but getting used to things.  I think he appreciated not being in the cold last night.  I just could not leave him out there.  He's so little.

Snowy is not a happy camper.  I'm sure she will get used to him, it will just take time.  He follows her around as if she is his momma but she wants no part of him.

Guess it's time to really get the house cleaned up so he doesn't get into anything or gets hurt.

Here's a couple of pictures of the new baby.

He's just a little bigger than my hand.  I have never had a kitten before nor a male cat.  I have a feeling this is going to be an interesting adventure.

  1. My cat, George Bailey, was a feral cat who kept trying to get into the house. So around Christmas that year we brought him in. He grew to be a very bossy and large yellow cat. Stubborn, too.

    1. Two years ago we brought in our white cat, Snowy, from an ice storm. I had been feeding her for about six months. She was covered in a layer of ice and wouldn't have made it through the night. I have never regretted bringing her in.

  2. Pumpkin is a cute name, especially because of his color and the time of year. There is nothing like a kitten, but beware, you will have lots of work for a few months. It will be worth it tho, when he learns to snuggle or sleep in your lap.

  4. Kathy, You are braver than I am. I would worry too much about fleas and the cat peeing to mark it's territory.. I know that cats do live outside in the cold...they just need a place to get too, preferably up high. I tell my daughter Kathy...be careful you do not become a crazy cat lady. LOL. we laugh about it all the time.. She still has outside cats too. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

    1. No places up high around here. No trees. No bushes. Just flat yards with grass. My step-mother had 30 cats. I am not like that. Two is my limit. I believe God gave us the animals to take care of. I can't save them all, but I can save two and feed others. This kitten is so little he definitely would not make it through a Philly winter. And he is going to the vet as soon as I can get an appointment.

    1. Good for Steven! I'm glad. Not everyone can have cats, but I'm allergic to dogs, so I can't have one of those. Glad you could rescue your puppy. Isn't God so good to give us these animals to love.

  6. OH He is just darling and going to grow up to be a pretty boy. Poor little thing. I am so glad you rescued him. If you have never had a kitten before you are in for a grand old time. He will make you laugh more times than you can imagine. AND...WHAT are you going to call this baby boy? I think you should have a "Name the Kitty contest"...lol xo Diana

  8. Congrats and best wishes on the new arrival! I think Pumpkin is a very good name considering his coloring. He is a big reason to get organized, though I am sure he's enjoying the adventure of exploring all your nooks & crannies.
    Enjoy!

  10. when I was twelve we took in a kitten who was identical to this one. I named her Cindy and she lived to be 16. Our terrier dog let her nurse on her. Make certain you get him neutered or you will regret it. God sent it to you.

    1. Neutering coming as soon as he is old enough and big enough. I am a firm believer in neutering

  11. Okay we are definitely soul sisters! We just added a new addition last week. Her name is lucky. I found her on the four lane and brought her home. She is about the same age and is tiny like that. The real kicker, she looks just like that one. That's a little odd huh?
