THANKSGIVING EVE

For me, autumn is a time of harvest, of gathering together.  For nature, it is a time of sowing, of scattering abroad.

How hard it is for me to believe that tomorrow is Thanksgiving.  How fast the time has passed.  Looking back I was so excited about September 1st and autumn beginning, and now it is almost winter.

Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays.  I am not a big eater, so it isn't the food that attracts me.  (In fact I don't like the taste of turkey and don't eat it.)  But it is the feeling that surrounds it.  The crisp air, the smells, the feeling of thankfulness of myself and those around me.  Such a nice feeling.  Cozy.  A hunkering down for the winter.  I hope you are having those nice feelings also.

Yesterday I baked some Pillsbury sugar cookies for Bible study.   They turned out so cute.

And they were delicious too.  There's none left.

We ended the study of the book of Esther.  It was such a good study.  Next week we are beginning on Luke.

We got off from work at 3:00 p.m. today.  Two hours early.  That was nice.  I was going to get some things done around the house but ended up doing what I really needed to do -- sleep.  I was so tired at work all day and actually yawning at the front desk.  I slept for about three hours and felt so much better.  I will just do my work tomorrow morning before we leave for Lancaster County.

I am very excited about going.  This is something completely new for me.  I have done nothing to prepare for Thanksgiving and it's been wonderful.  I will make some pumpkin pies this coming weekend, but that's about it.  Time to get ready for Christmas.

I probably won't be posting while I am away, so I hope you all have a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving Day.  Be careful on the roads if you are driving.  It's been pouring rain here for two days and there have been lots of accidents.  Fortunately for us tomorrow and Friday will be sunny so hopefully it will be safer driving.  I'll be back on Friday or Saturday with lots of pictures for you.

  1. we are staying home this thanksgiving day. my daughter made pumpkin cupcakes. she was going to frost them but when we ate one, it tasted good enough not to need the icing. maybe put a dollop of whipped topping a good idea. nice and moist. looking forward to hearing about your trip and hope you have a happy and safe trip!

  2. It's sometimes better when you don't 'plan' things. It leaves the door open for
the nicest surprises! The cookies look so cute! I love doing the sugar cookies. So easy & delicious.
Russ & I eat out for Thanksgiving. I've done my share of turkeys (& we don't care for them either) & with his family a 3+ hour drive away .....The inside of the house is decorated (except for the tree) & the windows will be done either later today or tomorrow.
Watching the news this morning answered the question:Who's parade is older?
Philadelphia's Thanksgiving parade is 7 years older than Macy's. Go Philly!! We have the oldest parade! Felix the Cat was the first balloon back in 1934. Prior to that, real zoo animals were used. That fact courtesy of Freekibblecat.com. Daily
    clicks feed shelter pets!
I will probably be watching the parade then the Philly Dog Show after walking my dogs. I wish one & all a safe, blessed & Happy Thanksgiving!
