I'M A WINNER

Now that the time has changed I can hardly believe how dark it is on my way home from work.  Here is what it looked like when I left the Fishtown Branch at 5:00 last night.

And this is what it looked like by the time I got home a half hour later.

The sun sets so quickly and it's a little tricky driving home.

Today Debbie and I headed to the farm.  We haven't been to Greensgrow for weeks because I've been working every Saturday.  It's getting toward the end of the season.  I think there's only two more weeks to go with the farmstand.  I wasn't expecting too much but I was very surprised.  There were two large tables piled high with just about anything you could imagine.  I loaded up and still spent less than $20.  Good deal!
I got purple cauliflower, sweet onions, bosc pears, gala apples, Boston lettuce, sweet potatoes and the last of the Jersey tomatoes.
After we left the farm we went to Shop Rite.  As we entered there was a table with all these party platters on it.  We were just passing by when the lady behind it asked if we would like to take a chance on winning one of the platters.  It was $1 donation which would go to our local food bank.  So we each got a chance and went on our way.  Imagine how surprised I was when a half-hour after I got home I got a phone call saying I had won the hoagie platter!  Yes, I won!  I had to go back and get it.  The manager actually carried it out to the car for me because it was heavy.  And I'll show you why it was so heavy.  Here is a picture of it.

Yes, it's a $66 tray that I won for a buck.  There must be enough food there to feed 20+ people.  So I am taking it to church tomorrow.  We have a coffee hour before the service and different people sign up to bring a cake, bagels, muffins, etc.  Will they ever be surprised when I walk in with this!  Honestly, I don't know what else to do with it except walk up and down the block knocking on doors and asking if anyone would like a sandwich.  I am assuming there will be some left over and I will share them with my two next-door neighbors tomorrow afternoon.

I also worked on decorating the front of the house.  I got the new flowers in my flowerpot and made a cute wreath for the front door.  I think it looks great.

There was so much more I wanted to get done today, but I just couldn't.  I'm so tired.  So with the sun setting I think I will just say goodnight.

  2. The wreath is stunning! I love the fall colors displayed on it. Many congrats on the hoagie win! Wish I was there to see you bring it into church. Such is the Lord's
    providing.
I understand about it getting dark. It seems like one minute it's light then look again & it's really dark. It certainly isn't motivating one to do things (unless you get up early! Ha ha)
    Enjoy your day!

  4. Kathy, You got some good foods...that's was a great win !! I think it seems depressing when it gets dark so soon....or I feel that way. I try to get outside just about the time the sun sets to do a walk about and get a photo. Take care. xoxo,Susie

  5. Congrats on winning the hoagie tray and so nice of you to share it. I know, it gets dark before I leave work now. Sigh! Oh well! My husband and I still walk for exercise even in the dark. There are street lights and no monsters so we are ok where we live! Hugs!
